Andrew Harold Muhl, Jr. was born on May 17, 1936, in Houston, to Andrew Harold and Louise Mary Muhl. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Ralph and his son Johnny Victor Charles, and his grandson, Keith Padgett and his best friends James Nations and Leo Suter.He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda J. Muhl of Mesquite; his children: Andy and Lindy of Forney, Peter and Sally of Sunnyvale, Kip and Linda of Greenville, and Sally and Ryan Padgett of Rusk; his grandchildren Daniel and Kris Ann Clark of Commerce, John Muhl of Sunnyvale, Charity Muhl of San Jose, California, Andrew Muhl of Addison, Dustin and Nancy Clark of Mabank, Kristen and Jason Harmon of Sunnyvale, Nicole and Brandon Doyle of Forney, Candace Muhl of McKinney, Maci, Tori Choate, and Kayleigh Padgett of Rusk; and his six great-grandchildren: McClaine and Brooks Clark, Alli Anna Dowling, Michael Harmon,Aiden Doyle, andGrady Clark. He is also survived by three brothers: Gerry, James, and Michael Muhl, and one sister, Winnie Badeaux, all of the Houston area; and two sister-in-laws: Maynelle Munson of Rockwall and Nan Thompson of Jackson, Mississippi. A resident of Houston for the first 33 years of his life, he attended St. Thomas High School and St. Thomas University.He had many happy memories of working in his father’s rice fields and tending to the family’s cattle.He went to work for Crown Life Insurance Company in 1960 as a Group Services Representative and left Crown in 1981 as the Regional Group Supervisor.From 1981 to 1988 he was President/CEO of the Affiliated Insurance Group, providing the insurance needs for members of the Affiliated Food Stores, Inc. of Keller, Texas. From there he served until 1995 at Total Plan Services.From 1995 until his retirement, he was an independent broker. Also at one time he co-owned a shopping center in Red Oak and operated a pizza shop and laundry-mat within that center. Drew loved people and never met a stranger.He was particularly called to minister to the ill and to the elderly. He was very close to his grandchildren, often taking them to sights around town for family outings.He was also a very generous husband, father, and grandfather, showering those he loved with meaningful gifts. This kind and gentle “giant” touched everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. “Drew” attended St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Houston where he served as an altar boy.C. Life Church of Sunnyvale has been his church home for many years, and he never missed a service after joining until he became too ill to attend.He spent his last days at Bradfield House and then at Notice Group Health Home, both in Mesquite, where he received excellent care. Visitation will be Monday, September 29, 2014, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas. The funeral service also will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm followed by a graveside service at Grove Hill Memorial Cemetery.
