Charles F. Sides passed away Sept. 26, 2013, at home, followinga courageous battle with cancer.He was born October 7, 1930, in Dallas Texas to Charlie and Opal Hopkins Sides.He graduated from Carter Riverside High Schoolin Fort Worth, Texas in 1949.From there he played baseball for Cleveland Indians AAA Farm Club in Lake Charles,LA. He then enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and served during the Korean War.He was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base Alamogordo,(White Sands), New Mexico.Under Colonel Stapp, he was involved in the testing of the chimpanzees for air and space travel.He met Betty Terhune in Alamogordo,and they married in Petersburg, Il in 1956.Charlie graduated from TCU in 1959.He began his extensive football coaching career in Illinois.Highlights of his coaching career included, assistant football coach at University of Illinois, head coach at Bloom Township High School, Chicago Heights, Rushville High School, and Macomb High School.He then followed the opportunity to be the Offensive Coordinator for the American Football Association’s Alabama Vulcans. Charlie returned to Texas to continue his coaching career.He married Rita Nolan in 1983 and retired from Rockwall ISD.Together Charlie and Rita enjoyed raising and competing cutting horses throughout his retirement. Charlie is survived by wife, Rita of Terrell, Texas.Children Gary (wife Myra) of Monroe, NC, Kathe Moseley (husband Gary) of Frisco, TX, LuAnn Kube (husband Kurt) of Frisco, TX, Linda Waldsmith (husband Rick) of Savannah, MO. Step-sons, Jimmy (deceased), Dale (wifeRose )of Amarillo, TX, Gary (wife Debbie) of San Diego, CA, and Kevin (wife Jennifer) of Kodiak, AK.Nine grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. Arrangements by New Hope Funeral Home.Graveside services Wednesday, October 9th at 10:00A.M., Dallas-Ft.
