Claire Louise Floyd

Claire Louise Morel Floyd, 83, formerly of Beaumont, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, in Forney, Texas, from complications associated with Alzheimer’s. She was born on February 23rd, 1930 in Beaumont, Texas to Lyndall Brown Morel and Albert Louis Morel. Claire was a 1948 graduate of Beaumont High School and worked several jobs prior to meeting her future husband on a blind date; after marriage she became a stay at home mom and raised and cared for her three sons and was active in various PTA’s, Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, the library at Amelia Elementary School along with numerous other organizations.She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church followed by 20 plus years at Cathedral in the Pines Christian Center. Claire was a soprano in the church choir and loved to sing her praises to God. She and Tom were also members of Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont.She became the Librarian at Cathedral in the Pines Christian School in 1984 following the graduation of her youngest son from high school and it was a job she loved until her retirement.She and her husband moved from their lifelong home of Beaumont in 2005 to live with their oldest son in Forney, Texas where they were members of First Baptist Church of Forney. Claire was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Brownie Morel Penrod and Nancy Morel Hogan House. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Thomas Augustus Floyd, of Forney; sons Charles Albert and his wife Mary, of Forney; Thomas Allen and his wife Kathy, of Houston; and Steven Arthur and his wife Shelly, of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Carrie Floyd Cagle, Michael Floyd, Joanna Floyd and Kathleen Floyd Kopp and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday September 24, 2013 at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy. 80, Sunnyvale, TX. officiating followed by burial at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of New Hope Funeral Home. The family would like to publicly thank the staff of Autumn Leaves of Rockwall for their loving care of Claire during her final year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
