Dorothy Jean Carnes

June 9, 1944 — April 27, 2014

Dorothy “Dot” Jean Niehaus Carnes was enveloped in the warm embrace of her family when she peacefully lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, April 27, 2014. She was 69. Dorothy was born in Kerrville, Texas, on June 9, 1944, to the late Henry and Helen Niehaus. In 1969 Dorothy’s brother, Henry, introduced to her to William Wayne Carnes, of Bishopville, South Carolina. It was almost love at first site and Dot and Wayne were married on August 9, 1969. They have spent most of their loving 45-year marriage in Rowlett and Sunnyvale, Texas. “Granny,” as she was affectionately called, spent her days creating lasting, meaningful memories with her beloved grandchildren. When not doting on her grandchildren, Dorothy could often be found whipping up delicious meals in her kitchen, a hobby that brought her so much joy and satisfied the bellies of countless friends and family. Dot and Wayne also reveled in the leisure time that came with retirement by exploring the world, travelling to exotic destinations, but always returning to their favorite getaway in South Carolina every year. Dorothy was an authentic southern lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She approached each day as an adventure, spawning a rewarding life and blessed existence. Dot was the “rock” of her family — someone who was always ready to listen, give advice, and provide the comfort that comes with knowing you are loved. And for that, she will always be missed and never forgotten. Dorothy is survived by her adoring husband, Wayne; their three children, Archie Meyer Carnes, Amy Jean Carnes Mack, and Rebecca Elizabeth Carnes Smith; and seven bright and talented grandchildren: Brandon Meyer Carnes, Victoria Alexander Carnes, Trinity Jordan Carnes, Noah David Mack, Annabel Lauren Mack, Sophie Ann Marie Carnes, and Elayna Caitlin Smith. Also sister, Bette Schwarz and husband Doug; brother, Henry Niehaus and wife Nancy.
