Earl B. Dobbs

March 29, 1921 — January 5, 2013

Earl B. Dobbs was born in Mart, Texas on March 29, 1921. He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on January 5, 2013 at the age of 91. His mother died in October 1929 with pneumonia, and his father continued to care for the children until he died with pneumonia in 1931. His uncle, who was a Baptist minister, arranged for the five children to enter Buckner Orphans Home in Dallas, Texas. They were accepted there on March 17, 1931 a few weeks before Earls 10th birthday. At Buckner, he went to Sunday School classes, attended preaching, and the Baptist Young Peoples Union. They were trained to have morals, taught spiritual lessons, and desired the truth of Gods way to be taken into life. He worked in the Commissary and was given the job of cutting the boys hair at one time. While living at Buckner, he enjoyed building crystal radio sets, listening to radio stations in Dallas, and taking apart dollar watches. He graduated from Buckner High School in 1941, being the salutatorian of his class and then attended Howard Payne College for a short period before going into the Army for 3 and a half years. He met Ruby Davis, a member of his class, at Buckner. After graduating and leaving Buckner, they kept in touch and in September 1942 were married, a short time before he went into military service. He served in France and Germany in the Signal Corp. of the U. S. Army for about thirty-eight months. After discharge, he and Ruby lived in Alabama briefly before moving to Texas where they have lived since. He was a Real Estate Broker in Dallas for about 20 years. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his wood shop, doing most of his own repair work, working a garden every year, and canning and preserving countless vegetables and fruits with Ruby. He was a deacon, Sunday School Director, and also taught a Sunday School Class for a number of years in the Baptist church. He enjoyed working on his computer and wrote over one thousand Bible related poems, which he shared with many in book and electronic format. His Christ-centered life was a blessing and ministry to all who met him. He was a quiet loving man who always strived to lead his family in the ways of the Lord. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Ruby, for over 70 years and a true example of a Godly Christian husband. He was loved and adored by all of his family and friends. A humble man, whose amazing legacy will continue on for generations. Our great loss is Heavens eternal gain.
