Gladys Merle Leverington

September 7, 1922 — February 6, 2013

Gladys Merle Leverington was born Septermber 7, 1922 in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Crozier Tech High School in 1941. For most of her adult life, Gladys chose to be a stay-at-home mom to her eight children. As they got older she worked a few part-time jobs so that she could still be at home when her kiddos got home from school. She settled on a full-time career as a receptionist in the pulmonary lab at Baylor Memorial Hospital in downtown Dallas. She worked until she was 70 years old and retired from Baylor in 1992.In her retirement years she was able to do some traveling, which included a trip to Hawaii and to Paris, France. She was proud of being a mom and enjoyed her later years with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceeded in death by parents: Elmer Jiles Homes and Nellie Sina Castleberry Holmes; Sisters: Vernell Phelps and Tina Reed She is survived by eight children: five sons; Michael Leverington and wife Mimi, Allan Pall, Denis Leverington, David J. Leverington, and Anthony Leverington. Three daughters; Elaine Shipman, Kathey Kraig and husband Jerry, Suzie Leverington and Edie Weathington Twelve Grandchildren: Eight grandsons; Calvin Shipman, Michael Shipman, Richard Leverington, Jonathan Shipman, Shawn Oliver, Jerry Oliver, Daniel Kraig, David T. Leverington; four granddaughters; Dawn Leverington, Dara Camerana, Amy Tamborrino, and Jennifer Kraig Takacs; twenty-one great grandchildren: Kyle 25 , Joseph 23, Lauren 21, Caitlin 18, Victoria 16,JC 14, Victoria 14,Bianca 13, Christina 13, Jacob 13, Raven 13, Jasmine 12, Toby 12, Ethan 11, Hunter 11, Taylor 9, Akamee 6,Maximilien 6,Jaiden 5,Elsi 1, andAlexander 2 months; one great-great grandson: Gabriel 2; andnumerous nieces and nephews. The vigil and rosary in her honor were held Monday, February 11, 2013 at the New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas. Her eldest son, Michael Leverington and his wife Miriam, led family and friends in a scriptural rosary rite. The Funeral Mass for Gladys Leverington will be at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Garland, Texas on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00AM.Father Joseph Mehan will be officiating the service with assistance from Deacon Michael Leverington. The choir under the direction of Darnell St. Romain will provide spiritual music for the liturgy and several of Gladys grandchildren will participate in the reading of scriptures. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rowlett, Texas
