Guy Carlton Callahan

March 29, 1925 — December 30, 2012

Guy Carlton Callahan, Jr. passed away December 30, 2012. Born in Bedford, IN on March 29, 1925, the family moved to Alabama for two of his high school years. Guy served our nation during the Atlantic front for three years on the US Navy Destroyer Escort 790, participating in the Normandy invasion. He then moved to Yorktown, IN, where he married Sarah Jane Hopping, who passed away in 1964. They had two sons, Gary Lee and Gregory. Mr. Callahan was in sales and management with J C Penney for fifteen years. He then began a 30 year career with Anthem Blue Cross-Blue Shield as a Sales Representative, focusing on the Labor Affairs Market. As a member at First Baptist Church, Muncie, Guy served as a deacon and on various committees. He met Nancy Bigham Hastings there. They married in 1965. He was an active member of Muncie Optimist Club as well as serving as the Exalted Ruler of the Muncie Elks Lodge. He loved golf. In retirement, he served as the first Chairman of the Volunteer Group at the Minnetrista Cultural Center, personally active in cataloguing collections. He and Nancy moved to Mesquite, TX in 2004, where they have been active in Pathways Fellowship Church for five years. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Callahan. Sons: Gary Callahan (FL), Greg and Sally Callahan (IN), Craig and Rose Hastings (OK). Daughters: Debra and Dennis Hochgraber (TX), Donna and John Peterson (IL). Grandchildren: Katy Callahan, Kara and Mike Staton (IN); Deanna and Wallace Reese, Dori and Jimmy Brown (TX); Kyleigh and James Vrettos (TN); Chad and Joel Hastings (OK). 6 great-grandchildren: Allie Staton (IN), Alyssa Polnac, Wesley and Wyatt Reese, Carter and Maci Brown (TX). Preceded in death by Bill Callahan, brother; Mary Johnson, sister. Visitation is at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy 80, Sunnyvale, TX at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 4. Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Elm Ridge Cemetery, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave, Muncie, IN on Monday, January 7 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pathways Fellowship Church in Sunnyvale, TX or First Baptist Church in Muncie, IN.
