Helen Martha Kubacek, 94, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family.Helen was born on October 22, 1920 in Cistern, Texas to Alex and Frances Vinklarek.She grew up on the family farm with her eight brothers and sisters, where she learned the value of hard work and a feisty spirit. She left the small town and moved to the big city of Dallas, where she worked as a keypuncher at Continental Emsco. Helen met Frank Kubacek and they married on February 19, 1955, and subsequently had three daughters. Helen lived a life devoted to God and her family.She loved to sew and cook, and enjoyed making Sunday dinners for her family, which usually included klobasa and strudel for dessert.She was always the hostess and would whip up a snack or a meal for any visitor.She was an avid gardener and looked forward to planting her flowers every year.Her backyard was truly an oasis, and she loved going out there even just to sit and enjoy the outdoors.She was a long time member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church for over 60 years and a member of KJZT. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, sisters Emily Barta and Carolyn Zurovec, and her brother Father Emil Vinklarek, and son-in-law James Gumpert.She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Gumpert, Phyllis Sumner and her husband Harold, and Celeste Michalic.She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Julie Sumner and Crystal Sumner and her husband, Nick Goldberg, 4 sisters, one brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many caregivers she had over the last several years, especially Agnes Muchoki. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm on Friday, January 9 with Rosary to follow at 6:00. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10 at 10:00 am at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 8131 Military Parkway, Dallas, TX 75227. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln., Dallas,TX . In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in her memory to: St Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
