Shreveport, LA " Funeral Services for Isaac Newton Yates, 82, will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Trinity Heights Baptist Church.Officiating will be Rev. James Preston Southard of Waxahachie, TX and Rev. Randy Riley, Assoc. Pastor of Trinity Heights Baptist.Interment will follow in Forest Park West.Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Ike was born August 8, 1930 in Sibley, LA and passed away on February 15, 2013 in Corinth, Texas after complications from a brainstem stroke in November 2012.He spent most of his life Shreveport.He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, worked 13 years as a US Air Force Civilian doing Aircraft Maintenance and Quality Control and retired as a DCASR-Dallas Quality Assurance Specialist after 19 years of service.He then worked for McGill Aircraft until May 2012. He will now join the many family members that preceded him in death which include his wife, Mary Lee Thomas Yates; his parents, John Henry Yates, Iona Mae Stiles Yates and Bertha Yates; his brothers, John Henry Yates and Hugh Yates and sisters, Betty Jean Murphy and Edythe Hulet; and son-in-law, Richard Smith.He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Smith and Fraya Saucier; son, Freddie Yates and wife Denise; grandchildren, Molly Manno; Kirt Barnett; Angela, Jamie, Kelly, Sean and Ashley Yates; Amber and Dawn Muse; Lyndsey and Kyle Smith; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His life was dedicated to his wife of almost 50 years and caring for his special granddaughter, Kelly.All those that came to know him remember all the stories he had to share from his childhood in Sibley, his time stationed in Japan and Alaska and flying.He was a true handyman and attempted to fix everything and usually succeeded.He remodeled his home, did home repairs, and repaired many a car.He enjoyed spending time in his garage, welding and through the years built barbeque pits, canopies, clothes line poles and other items to sell.He became know as Pa-Pa to many children that Mary babysat.He enjoyed conversations with whomever he met and always found something to talk about.He enjoyed playing the slot machines in hopes of one day winning a jackpot.He looked forward to his annual outing with his 917th Air Force Reserve Squadron.He will be missed by those that loved him but he will be remembered in his jeans, cowboy boots, and baseball caps with his cup of coffee and coffee thermos not too far away. Thanks to all the friends and family that visited him during the last few months while he tried so desperately to rehabilitate.He enjoyed spending time with each of you remembering things from the past and learning what was currently going on.Thanks to the doctors, nurses and therapists that worked with him at Willis Knighton Pierremont, Willis Knighton North, Corinth Rehab and Suites, Medical Center of Lewisville, Atrium Medical Center and New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, TX www.newhopefh.com.
