Katherine Opal Kinkel November 29, 1977-September 10, 2014 Katie is preceded in death by her grandfather, Louis Kinkel, and her uncle, Steve Kinkel.She is survived by her father Luke Kinkel, her mother Debbie Mitchell and stepfather, Mike, her sister, Karin, grandmother Lynn Kinkel, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many friends to count. Katie grew up in Mesquite, Texas where she was well known as a talented softball pitcher.She was so good in fact, that she attended Central Florida College on a softball scholarship.She ultimately graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Katie was also a gifted artist.She loved to paint and draw; many of her friends’ homes display her beautiful works of art. She had a zest for life.She loved to dance and laugh.Her spontaneous spirit and kind heart meant she made friends for life.She wasn’t afraid of hard work and could be depended upon for any task.She absolutely adored music and movies from the 1980s, Hello Kitty, Corvettes, Dr. Seuss, animals, Looney Tunes, extra spicy food, wine, getting dressed up, fashion, humorous people, intelligent conversations and especially her family and friends.She was also an avid sports fan.Her favorite teams included the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and the Dallas Stars.Dirk Nowitzki was her absolute favorite athlete. Katie was extremely passionate about helping others.She was giving of her time and talents.She often volunteered to various charities in her free time.Each year, on Memorial Day weekend, Katie took part in the “Carry the Load” event to honor fallen veterans and public servants.This is a true testament to Katie’s personality--staying true to something she believed in.Being an organ donor was very important to Katie.Even in death, she is giving of herself. This will make her practically immortal, even though her physical being has passed on. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make donations in Katie’s name on woundedwarriorproject.org. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” -Dr. Seuss Memorial service is 1:00 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014 at St Martin's Catholic Church 9470 County Road 213, Forney, TX 75126. There will be a celebration of life immediately following.
