Lillene Margo Claxton McGregor

February 16, 1942 — April 11, 2015

Lillene Margo Claxton McGregor was born on February 16, 1942 in Washington, D.C. as Lillene Margo Mention.She was the oldest daughter of Mary and Tommy Mention.She was a loving child and excelled in all of her grades.Her friends were always amazed by her large vocabulary.She attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Queens, New York. Lillene loved all activities and was an outdoor person. She was an excellent swimmer. The beach was one of her favorite places to visit. She was also a very good dancer.Lillene and her Uncle Adolphus entered a dance contest on the American Bandstand television show and came in second place!She shared a very close relationship with her brother, Lamont, and they were constant companions. In adulthood Lillene married and had three children:Karen, John and Vincent.Lillene enjoyed careers with the New York telephone company, department store sales, including Saks Fifth Avenue, and as a Home Care Aid for the elderly, including her grandmother, Elizabeth Kollore. Lillene was a very friendly and outgoing person. She had a wonderful personality and could make friends with anyone.Lillene loved to adorn herself with bold jewelry and vibrant colors and had a great sense of fashion.She was definitely a trendsetter the way she put her outfits together.She had a flair for doing hair and could never settle for one hair color; she liked to experiment with color and style often.She will also always be remembered for how generous she was.She would give you her last dollar or the coat off of her back if she thought you needed it more than she did.She would often come home with a little something for the ones she loved. After a lifetime in New York City, Lillene made her home in Northern California, under the care of her daughter, Karen, in Berkley.Everyone adored Lillene for her loving spirit, honesty, infectious laugh and exuberance for life. Lillene is predeceased by her mother Mary Grier, father Thomas Mention, son Vincent Claxton, brother Lamont Mention, nephew Robert ‘Born’ Brown, Uncle Lowell Kollore and Uncle James Kollore. She is survived by her daughter Karen Claxton Abramson, son John Claxton, son in law Jon Abramson, grandchildren, Nina Abramson and Leah Abramson, sisters Bonita Brown, Marchelle Brooks and Daphne Grier-Payne and Uncle Adolphus Kollore, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, friends, both lifelong and recent, whom she dearly loved. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 2:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale, TX75182
