BILLY CARL REID “Occasionally in life you meet someone who inspires you.Someone who is able to push you further than just the experience of the moment.”These words without a doubt apply to Billy Carl Reid, 71, of Forney, Texas, who passed away at his home on Sunday, March 30, 2014, with his family at his side. Interment will be on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Dallas – Fort Worth National Veterans Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas.Family and friends who would like to go in procession can meet at the funeral home, Friday at 9:00 a.m. Following interment, a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., New Hope Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 500 E. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda, in 1964 and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Bill was a decorated veteran who served in the army in the Vietnam War.He retired from UPS after 27 years of service. In 2004, he received the “Circle of Honor” award from UPS. In 1988, he was the founder and administrator of D.A.D. (Drivers Assisting Drivers) which today is known as STEPS. He was a zealous advocate of cystic fibrosis research and was politically active in championing prenatal testing. Bill had an enduring entrepreneurial spirit, exhibited in his multiple business projects and enterprises in such diverse endeavors as owning and operating his own air conditioning service company, an energy conservation company, and a successful internet web service partnership. Bill was a unique man who had his life’s priorities in order – he honored God through his unyielding faith and commitment to living the Christian ethic; he was a true American patriot who served his country with courage and valor; and he loved his family completely and with an agape love without conditions or expectations. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, of Forney and sons, Eric Reid of Irving, Texas; Devin Reid and daughter-in-law, Shauna, of Lucas, Texas; and “Grandpa’s” precious grandchildren, Elise and Landon Reid of Lucas.Other survivors include his father, Carl Dale Reid of Coahoma, Texas; brothers and their wives, Phillip and Shyrlee Reid of Coahoma; Mike and Linda Reid of Coahoma; Donald and Delinda Reid of Coahoma; and Royce and Paula Reid of Liberty Hills, Texas.Survivors also include sister-in-law, Jolene Rutledge and husband, Drex of Burleson; brother-in-law, Bobby Rogers and wife, Melodye, of Colleyville; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.Bill was preceded in death by his son, Kyle, and his mother, Earlene. Bill was an amazing family man, friend, worker, and someone who wanted you to do better, work harder and just do. He continued to fight cancer so he could spend more time with his family and precious grandchildren.Despite his disease, Bill never stopped working and in the final stages of his fight against cancer he still wanted to establish his annual cystic fibrosis awareness webpage. He did this every year for his great-nephew Jared, who struggles daily with this disease.Bill was dedicated to using his efforts to help make CF stand, not for cystic fibrosis, but for CURE FOUND. We ask that in lieu of flowers, that you honor Bill by honoring his request and make a donation to cystic fibrosis in his name.
