Clayborn "Clay" L. King

August 22, 1942 — November 12, 2019

Clay King lost his battle with cancer on November 12, 2019, at 77 years of age and surrounded by loving family and friends. Mr. King was born on August 22, 1942, in Pittsburg, Texas to Robert M. King and Marquerite M. Cowley. He served in the Navy from September 1963 to August 1967 as active duty on the USS Navarro. He was an Amphibious Vehicle Operator and a duty driver for General Westmoreland in Vietnam. His military accolades include the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Star devices, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. While on leave in San Diego he met the love of his life, Jean M. Nielsen. They married on April 30th, 1966 and were married for 53 years. Mr King retired from the US Post Office in 2010. His love for baseball took him to the Ballpark in Arlington where he spent his time with the Texas Rangers. He was preceded in death by his parents robert and Marquerite King of Winnsboro, grandparents Plumer G. and Willie Mae Cowley of Winnsboro. He is survived by his wife Jean M. King, son Robert King and daughter Laura King Bullock all of Mesquite, Grandchildren Daeton Bullock and wife Alondra Bullock of El Paso Ft Bliss, Shelby Bullock of Wichita Falls and Samantha Bullock of Mesquite and Tyler ValentineSisters Ella Mae Wilcox of Mesquite and Sarah Beall of Longview and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. King will have a private military honors service at the National Cemetery at a later date.
