August 23, 1946 — April 17, 2019

Dana K. (Dan) Chambliess August 8, 1946 – April 17, 2019 Dana K. (Dan) Chambliess, 72 of Forney passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Dan was born on August 8, 1946 to Dana K. and Dorothy (Caillouet) Chambliess in Quanah, Texas. He graduated from Sydney Lanier High School in Austin, and later attended and graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce, where he continued his love of football by playing for the ETSU Lions. After graduation Dan started his teaching and coaching career at West Lake High School in Austin, discovering that he had a passion for not only football, but for helping kids both on and off the field. Dan’s educational career then led him to Kennedale High School where he met the love of his life Debbie Dyer, who was also a coach and teacher there. Dan and Debbie married on December 22, 1973, and since that time together they have mentored and coached hundreds of students all across Texas. Dan taught in several districts throughout the state but none of them have been as special as his time spent with Forney ISD where he served as an educator for 20 + years not only coaching and teaching, but also serving as principal. Dan was proud to be a Forney Jackrabbit, and he loved watching his two sons Billy and Chris excel as athletes at Forney High School and on into their college careers. He was their biggest fan and supporter, and he and Debbie never missed a game. Dan retired from education in 2001, but he still loved talking sports with his friends and his two boys. He was also able to stay connected to education and athletic programs throughout the state through he and Debbie’s ownership of 4C’s Trophies. Dan had a true servant heart and he gave back to his community every chance he had. He was an active member of the Forney Lions Club for over 30 years, serving as an officer many times, but his proudest accomplishment was organizing and starting the Lions Club Little Dribbler’s Program.Dan had many titles in the Forney community, one of which was the best Driver’s Ed Teacher ever. Dan spent 30 years teaching students in Forney and surrounding communities how to drive, and some of his most memorable and laughable moments where riding along with his driver’s ed students. Dan also loved playing Santa Claus at Christmas time, and found great joy in being able to fool kids he had known all their lives into believing he was the true jolly Ol’ Saint Nick. However, of all of the titles Dan held his proudest title was Poppi. He loved his grandchildren and took great delight in watching them grow up, play sports or do other activities at school. He loved his family, and he loved sharing stories about accomplishments and comical moments in their lives. Dan is survived by his wife of 45 years Debbie, his sons Billy Chambliess and wife Christina of Godley, and Chris Chambliess of Forney. Grandchildren Cadence Chambliess, Dax Chambliess, Parker Wolinski, Landon Wolinski, and JT James. Brothers and Sister In-Laws Darrell and Brenda Dyer, Larry and DeeAnn Billner, Ronald and Tracy Blum, and a cousin he loved as a sister Patty Dyer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
