David Louis Lagarde

December 18, 1934 — July 28, 2019

David Louis Lagarde was born at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 18, 1934 to parents Louis Daniel Lagarde and Mary Virginia Harris Lagarde. He went to his heavenly home at City Hospital in Dallas, Texas on July 28, 2019 at the age of 84. David graduated high school from St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie, Louisiana. He got his undergraduate degree from Northwestern State University in Nachitoches, Louisiana and MBA from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. He began his teaching career as a math teacher for Dallas Independent School District in 1961 where he taught until his retirement in 1996.Following retirement, David got restless and made several attempts at other careers, including car sales, real estate and floral delivery until he realized his heart was truly in the classroom. He finished his working career after substitute teaching five years for Mesquite Independent School District. David served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1962 as a Specialist Four tank commander. He was proud of his service, but always felt he wasn’t true military since he never served in active combat. David was introduced to his wife, Irene, by a mutual friend, Sue Loftin, in 1984.They married March 7, 1987.Daughter, Tiffany gave them three grandsons, Shelby, Kyle and Sterling. Those three boys made David’s life complete. There was nothing he loved more than the camping trips he made with them to teach them the wonders of the great outdoors. He dearly loved their long “walk abouts” with his “chicken killin’ stick” (the walking stick they gave him). Those grandsons married and gave him five great-grandchildren, Noah, Jaxson, Maisy Grace, Ezra and Ellie. His biggest regret was he was at the stage in life that he wasn’t able to play with them like he had their dads. David will always be remembered for his practical jokes and unconventional ties.He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Irene, daughter Tiffany and husband Monti Turner, grandsons, Shelby and wife, Angelyn, Kyle and wife, Emily,Sterling and wife Mandie and great-grandchildren, Noah, Jaxson, Maisy, Ezra and Ellie, sister Mary Virginia Darmstater, niece Lisette McClung and husband Michael as well as other nieces and nephews. Lunch and a celebration of David’s life will be Saturday, August 3, 2019 in the Fellowship Hall at Mesquite Church of Christ, 400 W. Davis, Mesquite, Texas. It was his wish to cater a BBQ lunch for all of his friends and family, so please plan to stay for lunch. David dearly loved children and supported St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for many years. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude’s would be his wish.
