Leslie "Les" Gene Hopper

November 9, 1934 — February 4, 2019

Leslie Gene (Les) Hopper passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the age of 84 years old. He had been a resident at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Garland, Texas for the past 5 months. Prior to that, he lived in Wylie, Texas for several years. Les was born November 9, 1934 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Ruth and Grady Duncan Hopper. He is survived by one sister, Donna Gallion. He was married for many years to Cathy Gordy and they had two sons, Darwin Gordy Hopper and Damon Grady Hopper. He was also married to Marilyn Oudshoorn. Les graduated from Putnam City High in Oklahoma City in 1953. He attended college prior to joining the army on November 16, 1956. He was stationed in Japan and Ft Sill Oklahoma during the Korean War and received training as a radio operator. He was awarded Sharpshooter and the Good Conduct Medal during his enlistment. He was honorably discharged as Private First Class on November 14, 1958 and was an Army Reservist through November 15, 1962. Les was a Polygraph Examiner for Hopper and Hawkins for the majority of his career and traveled (drove!) to the majority of the States during that time. After being born in Guthrie Oklahoma, the family lived in Oklahoma City, started raising a family in Bethany, Oklahoma and eventually moved to Richardson, Texas where the sons graduated from High School. Les also lived briefly in Dallas, Lake Texoma, Wylie, and Garland. Les is survived by two sons, Darwin Gordy Hopper and Damon Grady Hopper and wife Cindy Allen; Grandson, Colton Grady Hopper and wife Ashley; Great Grandson, Hudson Chase Hopper; Sister, Donna Gallion; and two special men that were like sons to him, Doug Wiski and Scott Branham. Les lived a full life and loved the outdoors. In lieu of flowers, Les would be pleased if you took a friend or child and went fishing in memory of him. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, February 12 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Funeral Home located at 500 E. Hwy 80 in Sunnyvale, Tx 75182. Dr. Dennis Hochgraber, a family friend, will be officiating.
