Lindsay Richard Gonnet

September 6, 1953 — August 29, 2017

Lindsay Richard Gonnet, a lifetime resident of Mesquite, TX, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, following a long and valiant battle with liver and lung cancer. Lindsay was born on September 6, 1953, in El Paso, Texas, to Clyde Henry Gonnet and Katherine Ann McDonald. He moved to New Orleans, LA with his family as an infant, where he was joined on his adventure of life in 1955 by Stephen Michael, his #1 partner in crime. The following year his family moved back to Dallas, then Mesquite. In 1959, the third Musketeer, Glen Colin, was born. Lindsay started school at Elsie Shands Elementary School. In 1962, the family was completed with the arrival of James and John.In 1965, Lindsay continued his education at Ed Vanston Junior High School, followed by North Mesquite High School in 1968. He graduated from North Mesquite in 1971.Lindsay was an avid football player throughout his school years, but his first love was softball. He played softball in Garland and Mesquite, on both Men’s and Co-ed Teams for more than 25 years. Lindsay loved hunting, fishing, camping, and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. In 1984, Lindsay met the love of his life living very close to him in the same apartment complex. He kept his feelings secret for quite a while until one day a mutual friend told her, and she confronted him about it. From that day forward they were inseparable. Lindsay married Donna Lynn Green on March 1, 1986, and welcomed their children, Jennifer Lynn, and Matthew Kyle, in December 1986 (his best Christmas present ever!) and October 1989 (definitely at TREAT!). Donna had recently written of Lindsay that he was every breath she took, every beat of her heart, and she was that for him for over 31 years. He was a much loved mentor for the Boy Scouts of High Adventure Troop #580 and for the many many friends of Jennifer and Matthew. Lindsay was a construction staker (surveyor) by trade for more than 40 years, and from 1997 through 2013, he operated his own company, On-Site Stakers. He retired from surveying in January 2014.During his career, Lindsay made many friends that he stayed in contact with until his final days. Lindsay was preceded in death by his father Clyde Henry Gonnet; mother-in-law, Virginia Lynn Green; paternal grandfather, Emile William Gonnet, Sr.; paternal grandmother, Mary Rose Aimee Dieudonn; maternal grandfather, Hugh Thomas McDonald; paternal grandmother, Virginia Leah Freeman; uncle, Orville John Anderson; and cousin, Mark Andrew Anderson. A wake will be held at a later date. A Poem of Comfort One or the other must leave, One of the other must stay. One or the other must grieve, That is forever the way That is the vow that was sworn, Faithful ‘til death do us part. Braving what had to be borne, Hiding the ache in the heart. One, howsoever adored, First must be summoned away. That is the will of the Lord. One or the other must stay.
