Mabel was a strong woman who was passionate for making her own way in life.As a teenager, Mabel worked for a local clothing store as a fashion model. She saved that money to put herself through cosmetology school. It was at that time that she met the love of her life, Elza Kutch. He soon after asked her to marry him.She replied adamantly, “Not until I get through cosmetology school!.”And…. he waited ……… impatiently, until she earned her certification. She then gave him her hand in marriage in 1941. Their first child was born in 1942, Elza Leroy - “Sonny”. A few months after he was born, the United States became involved in World War II, and Elza immediately enlisted.Mabel was left to provide for her son and to help her widowed mother.Mabel worked on an army base in Oklahoma providing provisions for new recruits throughout the war while her mother took care of her son. After the war Elza, Mabel and Sonny moved to Perryton, where Elza had grown up.Their second child was born in 1950, Karl Franklin. In Perryton, Mabel and Elza made a life of service together. As members of the First Christian Church, they were both active in meeting needs of others in the community.Elza was a Mason and Mabel was a member of the Eastern Star women’s service group.Mabel was a entrepreneurial woman ahead of her time. She owned her own beauty salon in Perryton until 1980 when both she and Elza retired. The money she earned from the salon was used to put her sons through college and through optometry school. Both sons earned their doctoral degrees in Optometry. Later in life Elza and Mabel spent years on their cattle ranch. She unselfishly gave many years of her life taking care of Elza when he developed a debilitating case of arthritis. After Elza’s death in 2000, Mabel moved to Mesquite, and made herself happy taking care of her grandson Kevin Kutch. She was a doting grandmother and a dedicated servant to all. It seems fitting that she should pass on Christmas Day. We believe that some ofChrist’s most beloved souls are chosen each year to enter Heaven on His Birthday.
