Mary Alice Shewmake

Beloved wife, Mom, MiMi and friend, Mary Alice Motley Shewmake of Rockwall, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018 after a short battle with cancer.Born as the oldest child to parents Jack and Alice Motley on August 11, 1950, Mary was raised in Mesquite, attended Mesquite schools and graduated from Mesquite High School in 1969.Following graduation, she attended Texas Wesleyan and married the love of her life, Steve Shewmake, with whom she recently celebrated 48 wonderful years of marriage.Together, they had one son, Steven Christopher, and 2 loving granddaughters that were the apple of their MiMi’s eyes. Mary was a long-time employee of Mesquite ISD having retired after 40 years of service, with the last 27 years as secretary of Price Elementary.She also worked at Hanby and Rutherford Elementaries during her tenure. Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents.She is survived by husband, Steve Shewmake; son Chris Shewmake and wife Holly; two granddaughters, Madison Avery Shewmake and Audrey Alice Shewmake; and brother Ed Motley and wife Linda.She is also survived by nephews, nieces, other family members and friends. Mary will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends, her Price school family and all the individuals whose lives she touched throughout the years. Visitation will be Friday, August 10, 6-8 pm at New Hope Funeral Home.The funeral will also be held at New Hope Funeral Home on Saturday, August 11th, Mary’s birthday, at 10:00 am. Internment will follow at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
