Mike Manahan

Michel Kirk Manahan, Mike, affectionately called “PaPa” to those he mentored, passed away in his sleep October 11th, 2017 at his home in Mesquite, Texas.Mike fought a 15 month battle with Brain Cancer. He was 63 years young. Mike was born in Ada, February 14, 1954 to Norma and Virgil A. Manahan, Jr.Mike graduated in 1972 from Allen High School in Allen, Oklahoma.He attended college at East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma before working in the Oil and Gas industry in Oklahoma, Colorado, & Texas. Mike received his Associates degree in Oil and Gas Technology from Kilgore Jr College in Kilgore, Texas.While living in Kilgore, Mike met his wife of 39 years, Nedra Henry.Mike and Nedra met on the tennis courts and were married in 1978.They moved to Houston where Mike, Nedra, and Keri, Nedra’s daughter, began a life together as a family. Mike continued his work in oil and gas by working for Sun Oil Company in Houston, Texas. In 1979 Mike and Nedra added another daughter to the family with the birth of Kimberly Manahan.In 1982 the Manahan family moved to Dallas where Mike continued to work in the oil and gas industry. After years in the business, he took a break and started his own concrete staining business, D & M Flooring. After a few years as a business owner, Mike returned to his passion for oil and gas and began working for Texas Capital Bank. Mike was the Vice President, Engineering Analyst at the bank when he was diagnosed with an inoperable Glioblastoma, July of 2016. Mike loved traveling and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.He loved visiting with his friends old and new.Mike loved college football, especially OU and the college teams for which his grandson’s played. Mike traveled to many of the OU home games as well as bowl games when they could. Mike took up his father’s hobby of collecting coins, found interest in the civil war, had favorite TV shows to share at the office, had a bit of a sweet tooth, and even loved a good EBay auction! Mike loved to star gaze the night sky with his telescope. The heavens that he once viewed are now his home. Mike was a selfless man with softness in his heart with the goodness to mentor & help those in need. Mike was the rock of the family and for those he guided. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but never forgotten. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Virgil A. Manahan, Jr. of Ada Oklahoma, and his stepfather, Jerry Donaghey of Ada, Oklahoma. Mike is survived by his wife, Nedra Manahan of Mesquite, TX, children; Kim Rion of Mesquite, TX, Keri Jones and husband Jesse of Irving, TX, grandchildren; Jordan Roth of Garland, TX, Trae Hart, Justen Tatum, Gage Rion, and McKenzie Brumfield all of Mesquite TX, great grandchildren; Aiden Roth of Farmersville, TX,mother, Norma Donaghey, of Ada Oklahoma, sisters; Pam Manahan and husband Hilary Hudgens of Dallas, TX, Patti McCarthey and husband Donald, “Smokey” of Moore, Oklahoma, close family friends; Cameron McDonald of Stamford, TX,Geovani “Henry” Torres of Frisco, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews, his loving care givers; Marti Fulton, Uche Akanji, and LaKrysta Washington all of the Dallas, area, and the two Pugs Max and Maisy.
