Reba Jane Kennon

December 11, 1933 Reba Jane Spidle Kennon was born to Robert Dow and Reba Mae Spidle in Nacogdoches, Texas. She went peacefully to be with Jesus on the evening of Friday, February 22, 2019 surrounded by her loving husband of 64 years Herbert Kennon and daughters Karen Stone and Kathy McHargue. Her parents, sister-in-law and husband, Victor and Martha Kennedy, and her beloved son, Robert, precede her in death. She is survived by 4 grandchildren; Sean Stone, Julie Bates, husband Jason, Tiffany Stone, and Scott McHargue. 4 great grand children Caitlyn and Madilyn Bates, and Ryelynn and Remington McHargue as well as by many extended family members. Jane grew up in Crockett, Texas where many weekends of her childhood were spent working in her father’s five and dime store. She began selling candy to the patrons at a very early age – 5 or 6. She attended Crockett High School and participated in band playing the saxophone. Reba Jane also participated in the Rainbow Girl organization. After high school, she attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. In the fall of 1954 she married Herbert, who she met on a blind date and moved to Dallas. They lived off of Bryan Street in Dallas and attended Munger Place Methodist Church for several years. In 1956, Robert was born and Karen came just a year later. Soon they after they moved out of the crowded apartment in the big city of Dallas to the suburb of Mesquite. In 1964, Kathy was born. After much saving, they purchased a brand new home in North Mesquite in 1969, which was her home until her passing. She attended St. Marks UMC for the majority of her life, but also attended Owenwood UMC and White Rock UMC. She was a member of the choir at all three locations at various times.She volunteered with the UMC youth and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. Over the years Jane worked a few jobs here and there at TI and even a stint at a Lemonade Stand with her daughter Karen. She is well known for taking care of her children and grandchildren. She would have loved taking care of great grandchildren if she did not have health concerns. She loved family and made sure that everyone of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren knew the Lord. She would often pick up her grandchildren to make sure they went to church each Sunday. Jane never knew a stranger. She would talk to any one about anything. She spent time each day reading her Bible, playing the piano, and memorizing music theory. She enjoyed attending a summer music school when she was able to continue to learn music. Jane will be missed by all for the way she cared for people. She always wanted to have food in the house so no one went hungry, whether it was family or friend. She wanted everyone to have what they needed and more.
