Rebecca Ann Howe

December 17, 1950 — January 24, 2019

Rebecca Ann “Becky” Howe died on Thursday, January 24th, 2019, in Dallas. Becky was born December 17, 1950, the second of four children born to W.A. Jr. and Dora Locke of Dallas. She married Michael Frederick (Mike) Howe on February 12, 1982. After attending Rosemont Elementary, W.E. Greiner Junior High, and Sunset High School, Becky worked at Bearden Furniture in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. There Becky was an immediate hit with the staff and customers alike, always bringing her bright smile and cheery disposition to all.Becky was featured in a Dallas newspaper story on the store, proving to all that she could be a celebrity if she just had the chance.Despite that moment of fame Becky decided against heading to Hollywood and certain stardom, instead choosing to enter the civil service world. Becky went to work for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service, then called US Customs.Becky was proud to be recognized many times as an exceptional public servant but of greatest importance to her was the opportunity she saw each day to help people in their effort to become US citizens. She loved people and would excitedly tell of instances she was able to help someone, or express tearfully of times she was unable to make things perfect for others. Shortly after starting work with Customs, Becky met Mike, a fine young man from Detroit, and despite the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions less than friendly history, Becky soon fell for Mike and his positive spirit, beautiful eyes, and undeniable charm. Just one year and ten days after marrying, Becky and Mike had their first child, Michael Justin Howe, born February 22, 1983, the pride of joy of his parents and just as cute with those big blue eyes as a baby can be.Becky continued working after Mike’s birth and in March of 1991, their second child was born, another gorgeous boy with her husband’s blue eyes and a laugh that would just melt your heart. Becky and Mike loved raising their boys and watching them grow into true gentlemen who married wonderful ladies and before Becky’s death she had the joy of becoming a grandmom, or NeNe as she was called by two handsome young boys, Brantley and Thomas and one beautiful little girl, Avery. All three made Becky’s days joyous no matter her health. In the early 1990’s Becky began suffering from diabetes and over the next twenty years fell prey to many of the maladies associated with diabetes including losing her sight, serious neuropathy, and end-stage renal disease which forced her to undergo hemodialysis three times a week for over five years until receiving a kidney transplant in 2017.Sadly the disease continued to haunt Becky, causing infection after infection until a rare and very malicious one took her life on Jan 24, 2019. Though the disease finally won, Becky fought valiantly and never lost her sense of humor or her ability to make others smile just by being Becky. She slipped silently into God’s hands just after midnight while resting peacefully under the excellent care of the staff at Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff, and listening to the reassuring voices of family who were nearby at the time of her passing as they had been nearly every moment of her hospitalization.Becky may not have been responding directly the last few days but the family is confident she knew her family and friends had been close by at all times.Becky knew she was loved. Becky is survived by her husband, Mike Howe, their sons Mike Howe and his wife Kelly and Justin and his wife Morgan.Becky is also survived by two brothers, Mike Locke (Cissy), and Dub Locke (Linda) and one sister (and best friend) Kathy Guercia.Becky, Mike, Kathy and Dub were very close and her loss is very tough for each of them.On Becky’s side of the family she also leaves behind nine nephews and nieces that loved her as a second Mom and “fun and crazy Aunt.”Becky also leaves wonderfulin-laws whom she lovedto tease with due to each having a fun and positive spirit that Becky so loved. Mike’s family includes two brothers, Pat (Diane) Howe and Rob (Wendy) Howe, as well as three sisters, Pam (Ron) Black, KathyKeck, and Sue (Paul) Bonarek, and a host of nephews and nieces, all of whom Becky loved. Becky is preceded in death by her loving parents, W.A. Jr. and Dora Locke, by Mike’s mother, Dorothy Howe, his sister Barbara New, and Kathy Keck’s husband Steve and Kathy Guercia’s former husband Rick.
