Roger Frank Emrich

Roger Frank Emrich joined his Heavenly Father on April 27, 2019 after courageously battling various ailments for several years. He is survived by his son Ted Emrich and his wife Kate Emrich of Coppell, his beloved granddaughter Jane Cristina Emrich, brother David Emrich of Houston, brother Alan Emrich of Gulfport, MS, sister Robin Knapp, her husband Dave Knapp, niece Anna Knapp of Dothan, AL, nephew Sean Knapp of Los Angeles, brother Donald Emrich of New Orleans, sister-in-law Terri Stout of San Antonio, her husband Jay Stout, niece Jackie Stout Aguilar, grand niece Juliana of Houston, brother-in-law Manny Jimenez of San Antonio, and mother-in-law Mayte Jimenez of San Antonio. Roger was born in July 1956 in Electra, TX, and grew up in New Orleans, where he attended West Jefferson High School, graduating in 1974. He enlisted in the Air Force and served as editor for the base newspapers at Plattsburgh AFB, NY from 1975-78 and Iraklion AS, Crete, Greece from 1978-79. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended the University of New Orleans and graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. That same year, he married the love of his life, best friend, and fierce protector Cristina Jimenez, with whom he shared 29 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Roger’s legendary career in radio began in 1981 at 92.3 WCKW-FM in LaPlace, LA, where he handled the play-by-play for eight different high school football teams in the area. The late 1980s brought a move to Texas and a job at 1440 KDNT-AM in Denton, where he was a morning drive disc jockey and play-by-play announcer for local high schools. Roger and Cris welcomed son Ted into the world in August 1987 in Lewisville. In 1989, Roger joined the Texas State Network as State Capitol Bureau Chief in Austin, and also served as the radio voice of the University of Texas women’s basketball team for the 1989-90 season. In 1993, he brought his trademark baritone back to the DFW airwaves at 1080 KRLD-AM. He spent more than 25 years as an anchor, reporter, host, and play-by-play announcer. He also contributed to 105.3 KRLD-FM starting in 2008. His crowning achievement came in 2011, as he earned the position of public address announcer for the Dallas Cowboys. His voice echoed throughout AT&T Stadium for eight seasons. Roger was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2015. A celebration of Roger’s life will be held Saturday May 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Family Cathedral of Praise in Mesquite, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger’s name to Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church in Dallas or Family Cathedral.
