Alice Elizabeth (Bess) Tilger

March 12, 1934 — January 11, 2021

Alice (Bess) Elizabeth (Lacy) Tilger, was born near Leonard, Texas on March 12, 1934 and passed away January 11, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe Thomas Tilger, her parents John Elmer Lacy and Ada Beatrice (Roach) Lacy and sisters Lois Wright, Barbara Ferguson and Mildred Sikes. She is survived by her daughters Vickie Tinsley, Karen Dockery and husband Mike Dockery and son Joe T. Tilger Jr. and wife Ann Tilger. Also survived by grandchildren Josh Halvorson, Laura Halvorson, Christopher Dockery, Taylor Dockery, Amanda Tilger and Joe Ryan Tilger and wife Sydney Tilger and two great granddaughters and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Leonard High School and worked several years for the Mesquite School District, working at J.H. Florence Elementary, Mesquite High School and Ruby Shaw Elementary. Alice (Bess) and husband Joe T. Tilger were members of Mimosa Lane Baptist Church (now Inspiration Church) in Mesquite, Texas for many years.

She loved gardening, square dancing, traveling and spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed her pet dogs, loved watching and feeding birds and playing dominoes with friends and family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, dear friend to many and will be greatly missed.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic there will not be any visitation or funeral. A private memorial service will occur at a later date when conditions allow.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Inspiration Church-Mesquite, Texas, your local food bank or a local animal shelter.
