Annie "Joyce" Hicks, age 86, of Mesquite, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, March 29, 2026.
Joyce was born on October 13, 1939, in Dallas, Texas, to Carl Mayes and Irene Mayes. Joyce married Joe H. Hicks, Jr., on February 3, 1956.
Joyce was raised and attended school in Dallas. She and her husband moved to Mesquite, Texas in 1968 and were officially recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as the 50,000th resident family. She was a longtime volunteer, having served on the Historic Mesquite, Inc., Historic Mesquite Foundation, and the PARD boards. On November 15, 2013, she received a special proclamation from Mesquite for 20 years of service as a volunteer for Historic Mesquite, Inc.
Joyce worked at her husband's CPA practice until her retirement. She enjoyed old houses, quilts, crocheting, doll collections, sewing, morning coffee and devotion, reading her newspaper, watching football games, traveling, and seeing her little people and little people, next generation.
Joyce is loved and will be missed by her husband of 70 years, Joe H. Hicks, Jr. of Mesquite; sons, Jimmy Hicks of Conroe, Paul Hicks and wife Tammy of Wills Point; daughters, Julie Hargrove and husband WL of Allen, and Pam Williams of Wills Point; grandchildren, Randy Hicks, Stephanie Hicks, Neil Hargrove and wife Auburn Layman, Michael Williams, and Kyle Hicks; great-grandchildren, Devin Parker, Lexi Hicks, Kennedy Hicks, Linea Hargrove, and Fin Hargrove; great-great-granddaughter, Alexandra Parker; brother, Mike Mayes and wife Karen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Irene Mayes; and sisters, Mary Scoville, Jimmie Hebert and Inez Linenschmidt.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on April 10, 2026, at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, where friends and family will gather to remember her. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, and she will be laid to rest in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dallas at 3:30 PM.
