Barbara Wilck Mann, 92, of Mesquite, Texas, died Wednesday, May 20, 2026. A memorial service will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at New Hope Funeral Home on Highway 80 in Sunnyvale.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Mann; parents, Paul and Helen Wilck; and brother, Paul John Wilck. Barbara is survived by her brother, James Wilck (Janis); daughter, Debbie Mann; sons, Rick Mann (Martha) and Jeff Mann (Charlesetta); grandchildren, Katie DePol (Mike), Meg Shipley (John), Sarah Grady (Brandon), and Ben Mann (Merritt); and great-grandchildren, Grant, Anna, Ethan, Carson, Mason, Landon, Henry, and Molly. She also leaves behind Catlyn, her beloved cat.
Barbara was born in Farmville, Virginia, a town filled with vivid memories of family, friends, and adventures. She graduated from Farmville High School and went on to attend the Katharine Gibbs business and secretarial school in New York, followed by a short stint at Columbia University.
Her life in Mesquite started after marrying Carl Mann in 1953. Their first home was on Holly Street, across from Florence Black Elementary, before moving to Kathy Drive, where they raised three children, numerous dogs, and three independent cats who ruled the house with a degree of discipline and control humans can only wish for.
Her children's education was paramount in her life. English composition and strong grammar skills were demanded of all members of the family-except her great-grandchildren, who could do nothing wrong. She displayed those skills while working as a secretary for the Loncy Leake Law Office and Southwest Title with Punch Rorie. She later worked for Paul Leake and Warren Nystrom as a legal secretary.
Barbara and many friends were deeply involved in volunteer work in Mesquite along with club and school activities, including the Triskelion Club.
Barbara was the kind of person who made ordinary days extraordinary. She believed life should be fun, and she had a gift for turning everyday activities into adventures. She played the stock market with her children, hosted spirited family quiz nights, and even found creative ways to soften harsh language by reversing bad words and turning them into family jokes. Her quick wit, imagination, and sense of humor brought joy to everyone around her.
Nothing delighted Barbara more than becoming a grandmother and later a great-grandmother. She often joked that having grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the universe's way of repaying her for all the dead creatures she discovered in her children's pockets during their childhood adventures. She adored every one of them and took immense pride in watching her family grow through the generations.
Barbara was her family's favorite person. She was the center of countless memories, traditions, celebrations, and stories. Her love, wisdom, laughter, and unwavering presence shaped the lives of those around her. She is already deeply missed.
The family finds comfort in imagining Barbara reunited with Carl and surrounded by the many dogs and cats she loved throughout her life, hosting the best party in heaven. Though our hearts are heavy, we know this is not goodbye forever.
We will see you on the other side, Barbie.
