Barbara Jean Winn

Barbara Jean Oneal Winn, 89 of Mesquite, Texas passed away on February 1, 2022. She was born on October 14, 1932 to Alvie Dud and Bennie Elizabeth Oneal in Mt. Vernon, TX. She was married to the love of her life, Marshall Winn for 67 years who preceded her in death November 2021. They had 2 children, Marty and Kim Winn, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She began working for the Mesquite Police Department as a dispatcher in 1964, leaving there in 1971 to attend the Police Academy and work at DFW International Airport Police then returned to Mesquite Police Department in 1974 and remained there until she retired in 1976. After retirement, she opened Town East Florist with her close friend, Kay David. She was a true lover of sports and fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She loved watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and attended every game she possibly could. Another fun pastime of hers was playing Bingo with family and friends. She rarely missed a Friday night!

Barbara and her family joined Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church in March 1974 where she began rocking babies in the nursery for many years. She developed so many friendships over the years and treasured them all dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Winn, mother and father, Alvie Dud and Bennie Elizabeth Oneal, sister Martha Lou Wilson, sisters in law, Janice Martin and Evelyn Eldridge. She is survived by son Marty Winn and his wife, Lisa, daughter Kim Winn, brother, James Oneal and his wife Jane, sister Maxine Redding, brother-in-law, Wayne Wilson, sister-in-law, Bernice and her husband Jack May. Grandchildren, Zachary Winn, his wife Adela, Brandi Moses, her husband Scotty, Justin Winn, his wife Lauren, Lindsey West, her husband James, Chelsey Pecina, her husband Jacob. Great grandchildren, Nathan, Charlie, Connor, Brantlee, Jade, Presley, Remi, Stella, Hazel and Jaxon and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Barbara Winn’s name to the Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church Children’s Ministry/Nursery Fund.
