Listen to Obituary

Bernice was born in Shiner, Texas, grew up in Moulton, Texas, and graduated from Moulton High School in 1961. She passed away July 25, 2025. She married and later moved to Dallas in 1967, when she had a daughter, Melissa, who was the love of her life. Bernice loved being with people, and no one was a stranger to her. She was very protective of her family and friends. She had your back through good and bad.

Bernice was very loving, and it showed for all to see. She was very caring and funny. She had the best sense of humor, was honest, very outspoken, outgoing and so genuine.

She enjoyed music, fishing, jigsaw puzzles, watching hummingbirds play, and loved listening to her son-in-law tell wild, amazing (made-up) stories about himself that would get her laughing with sparkles in her eyes.

Bernice volunteered for 5 years at the Kleberg-Rylie Recreation Center. In 2016, she received the President's Volunteer Service Award from the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, signed by Barack Obama, and also received A Certificate of Appreciation Award.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Norma Hoepfl. She is survived by her daughter Melissa Holmes husband Steve Holmes and his sister Jacque Rountree; her sisters, Pat Cox and Margaret Berckenhoff ( husband Larry); niece: Laurie Wilson ( husband Les); great-niece: Elizabeth Pimentel (husband Rick); great-great niece, Olivia Pimentel; long-time best friend of many years Charlotte Humphries and daughter Shannon Adam's; friends, Evelyn and Percy Bryant and their daughter, Jemecia Bryant; and friend, Terry Hamilton.

Everyone that knew her loved her and she will truly be missed by all that knew her. Bernice enjoyed spending time with family and friends always there to lend a helping hand.
