Betty J. Collins

Our Queen is now with her King of Kings

            Betty Collins, a devout Christian went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 22, 2021 at the age of 91.  Betty resided in Prosper, Texas with her daughter Cathi and son-in-law Mark Carey.

            Betty was born on May 26, 1929 to Oco Owens and Bessie Taylor Owens in Forney, Texas.  She grew up surrounded by her family who she considered her friends.  Her cousin, Ann Floyd, being only seven months younger in age was more like a sister than a cousin.  There was always lots of laughter when they were together.

            She graduated from East Texas State University and went on to teach physical education for the Dallas Independent School District for over 30 years.

            Betty was a strong, loving, and devoted mother to her five children, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.  She was lovingly referred to as “Nanny” by all.

            She shared twenty-three years with a wonderful companion, Jim Devlin, until he passed away in 1996.  They shared a passion for dancing, reading, and cooking.

            Her smile and laughter could light up any room and warm any heart.  She will be deeply missed by her family.

            Betty is survived by her brother, Micky Owens and wife Robin; her children, son Mark Collins and wife Lesa, daughter Cathi Carey and husband Mark and son Joseph Collins; five grandchildren, Angela Wigley and husband Kevin, Rebecca Decker and husband Jr., Patricia Collins, Joseph Collins and wife Samantha, Gabrielle Collins; ten great-grandchildren, Victoria, Alyssa, Collin, Delamie, Emma Wigley, Abigail Menefee, Andrew and Sarah Collins, Sinclaire and Sullivan Decker.

            Proceeded in death by her parents, brother Davie Owens, children Jerry Collins Jr., Andrew Collins, Cousin Ann Floyd, and companion Jim Devlin.
