Blaine Arlington Waynes, Jr. was born on December 29, 1932, in Tulsa, OK, to the late Johnnie and Creola Wallace. He departed from this life on August 2, 2025. He was 92 years old.
Blaine's life story is one filled with challenges and triumphs. As a five-year-old boy, Blaine fell gravely ill and was treated for his illness by a well-known physician, Dr. Blaine A. Waynes, in Tulsa, OK. While being treated by Dr. Waynes, the physician and his wife, Maude C. Waynes, took a liking to him. So much so that they decided to adopt him and renamed him Blaine Arlington Waynes, Jr..
In 1952, Blaine married Marlene Felder, and from this union, four children were born: Antoinette, Ricky, Michael, and Sybil. It was also during this time that he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War.
In 1967, Blaine met his soulmate, Loretta Teems. From this union, a daughter was born, Mia. They blended their families and sealed their union in marriage in 1980. They were married for 43 years until Loretta passed in 2024.
Blaine was the kind of person who walked into a room and instantly lit it up; not just with his smile, but with his energy. A true go-getter, he never waited for opportunities to come to him; he created them. Fun-loving to the core, he had a knack for finding joy in the little things... fishing, playing cards, cracking jokes, yelling at football, basketball, tennis matches, and watching westerns until the wee hours of the night. He made ordinary days feel special. If he loved you, you knew it, even if it came in the form of good-natured teasing or sarcastic comment.
He told it like it was, didn't sugarcoat a thing, and somehow, that made you trust him even more. With his quick wit, he told stories better than just about anyone. He swore he could fix everything, take it apart, and put it back together. The best way to win Blaine's heart was through food. Just bring him some beans, greens, and cornbread with buttermilk.
Blaine faced his life with fearless determination and inspired others to do the same. If he fell, he got back up, stronger, wiser, and still smiling. Full of life in every sense, he did not just live for himself, but to support other people around him. Blaine displayed tough love... he would give it to you straight, but would lift you, support you, and speak confidence into you at the same time. Being around him reminded us of all the beauty that is in being bold, being kind, and, most importantly, being alive.
Blaine was preceded in death by his loving wife, Loretta; his siblings, Johnnie Wallace Jr, Victoria Lee, Opal King, Elroy Tillman, Sherman Lloyd, Roscoe Fowler, Donald Fowler; and his son, Dennis Teems.
He is survived by his children, Antoinette Burks of McKinney, TX; Ricky Waynes (Loretta) of Mesquite, TX; Michael Waynes (Kris) of Encino, CA; Sybil Shumpert of Allen, TX; Mia Gatlin (Kevin) of Terrell, TX; Richard Teems of South Gate, CA; David Teems of South Gate, CA, and Gregory Teems (Valencia) of Paramount, CA; as well as nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
