Bonnie Jean Shrock

Bonnie Jean Shrock, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, went home to be with Jesus on September 15, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 85. Bonnie loved the Lord and lived her life grounded in her faith. Her faith has been made sight, and she is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and trusted.

Born on March 23, 1941, in La Junta, Colorado, to Clarence and Helen (Kuhns) Freeman, Bonnie lived a life defined by faith, love, devotion, and a heart for others.

Above all else, Bonnie treasured family. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were at the very heart of her life, but Bonnie's definition of family reached far beyond her own home. She embraced her friends and church family as her own, loving them, caring for them, and sharing life with them. Whether you called her wife, Mom, Grandma, or friend, being loved by Bonnie meant being loved wholeheartedly.

On January 1, 1984, Bonnie married her soulmate and best friend, Elroy Shrock, in Mesquite, Texas. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage and built a life centered around family, faith, and the people they loved.

Bonnie was the proud mother of Lance Miller, Kammi Petersheim, Sharla Mangum, and Keisha Gassiott, and she delighted in being a grandmother. Family gatherings, milestones, everyday conversations, and simply being together were among life's greatest gifts to her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Elroy; her four children; her former spouse, Linus Miller; daughter-in-law, Jamie Miller; sons-in-law, Nelson Petersheim, Chris Mangum, and Gregg Gassiott; and sisters, Sheryl Gingerich and Carol Rosenberger. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Zach, Andrew, and Allison Miller; Corbin and Tori Petersheim; Jhett and Bristol Mangum; and Carter, Caleb, Abigail, and Colton Gassiott; step-granddaughter, Lauren Findley; and great-step-granddaughters, Kiara and Serena Findley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Helen Freeman and her brother, Kenneth Freeman.

Bonnie's love for children extended far beyond her own family. For 45 years, she devoted herself to elementary education, spending much of her career teaching second grade in Mesquite ISD. Generations of children entered her classroom and found not only a teacher, but someone who believed in them, encouraged them, and cared deeply about their success. Teaching was another expression of the nurturing heart that defined her life.

Those who knew Bonnie will remember many things about her, but perhaps most of all, they will remember her warm, beautiful smile. It was the kind of smile that could light up a room and she had a way of making everyone she met feel seen, valued, and genuinely cared for.

Bonnie's family was her greatest joy and her greatest legacy. The love she gave so freely lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, former students, church family, and the countless lives she touched along the way.

A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held at Inspiration Church in Mesquite, Texas, on October 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember, celebrate, and give thanks for a remarkable woman and a life filled with faith and love.
