Brett Allan Wisdom

Brett Allan Wisdom, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Eustace, Texas on September 6, 2026, at the age of 59 from heart disease and diabetes. He was born on July 6, 1967, in Dallas, Texas, where he was one of the first babies to use the incubator. He spent his life dedicated to family, friends, animals, and his passions.

As a young boy, Brett enjoyed spending time with his paternal grandparents at their home in Sherman, Texas. He would recount how he would ride the bus all the way to Sherman and all the fun times he shared with grandpa Wisdom. I'm sure he was on of the first people Brett greeted when he got to Heaven.

Brett was married to the love of his life, Sherry Dickerson, on March 12, 1994, in a joyful ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Their bond was a shining example of love, as Brett never missed an opportunity to tell Sherry just how much he adored her. He often referred to her as the "brains" of their operation, supporting her ambitions with unwavering love and kindness. He enjoyed recounting his adventures and journeys with his family and friends.

Brett and his wife purchased their family home in Mesquite, Texas where they resided for twenty-five years and together raised both their children. One of Brett's proudest moments was working on Sherry's campaign for City Council. When Sherry was sworn in after being elected, Brett was front and center, a testament to his love for her.

Brett also welcomed over fourteen exchange students from all over the world. He wanted his children to experience other customs, cultures and beliefs. Students came from Brazil, Germany, and Asia. He maintained those relationships up until his death and several have sent fond sentiments expressing their love and gratitude for opening his home and showing them kindess, love and support during their sojourn.

Brett was an avid animal lover, and in 2021, after moving to their farm, he devoted his energy to rescuing a wonderful array of animals, from goats and pigs to horses and chickens. His passion for farm life brought him immense joy, and he thrived in his role as a caretaker of these beloved creatures. Known for his generosity, Brett never met a stranger and would go out of his way to lend a hand, often giving the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Professionally, Brett was an employee of the Texas Department of Transportation, Kaufman Service Center for several years as a shop mechanic. He was working on his "second" retirement as he liked to say but his wife would tell you it was to feed all the animals he rescued. Brett enjoyed tinkering and fixing all things mechanical, he felt a great sense of accomplishment when he could tear something down and put it back together.

Brett retired from the City of Dallas after twenty-eight years where he was deeply respected and appreciated. He worked initially as a mechanic before he worked his way up to a Supervisor and then Interim Manager. When Brett's son David, followed in his footsteps, becoming a mechanic at the City of Dallas, this filled Brett with immense pride. Another one of his proudest moments was restoring a 1995 Anniversary Edition Camaro for his daughter Ashley on her sixteenth birthday, a testament to his incredible skills and love for his family. His committment to his work and family only rivaled by his passion for farm life, which he embraced after moving to rural Eustace, East Texas in 2021.

Brett actively engaged with the community, coaching little league, attending every game and event his children participated in, and affectionately known as "pops" or "big poppa" by many of Sherry's students. He delighted in cooking pancakes for kids during Saturday school sessions, always eager to help where he could.

His faith was an important aspect of his life. Growing up in First Baptist Church and later finding a home at the Dallas County Cowboy Church, Brett was deeply rooted in his beliefs and enjoyed leading fellow bikers on weekend rides as a Road Captain for the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Brett was an avid gun enthusiasts and hunter. He loved spending time in nature. He was a patriot and loved his country.

Brett is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sherry D. Wisdom of Eustace, Texas, his daughter, Ashley Nicole Wisdom and her family of Terrell, Texas and his son, David Allan Wisdom and his family, of Mesquite, Texas, a sister, Sherri Linscott and husband, Jay, of Terrell, Texas, nieces, Morgan Nambo and family, Jessica Ortuno and family, and a nephew, Wesley Mosalmani, Dallas, Texas.

A celebration of Brett's life will be held on September 26, 2026 at the Dunford Recreation Center in Mesquite, Texas at 5 pm with Mr. Bruce Archer officiating. Family and friends are invited to share in the remembrance and joy that Brett brought into their lives followed by one of Brett's favorite meals.

Brett was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Villanueva, his mother, Elizabeth Wisdom, his father, Robert Wisdom, his step-father, Robert Stirling, both sets of grandparents and his beloved nephew, Alex Mosalmani.
