Carolyn Gray Shannon, born on April 11, 1949, in Greenville, Texas, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. She was a devoted mother to her son, Jay Shannon, and a cherished mother-in-law to Trace Lewis. As a proud grandmother, she found joy in the lives of her grandchildren, Tylar and Skyler Yarborough. Carolyn was not just family; she was a steadfast friend to many and took great joy in her relationships.

A graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce, TX, Carolyn dedicated her career to the healthcare industry as the owner and program administrator at Trinity Manor in Garland, TX. Carolyn spent years caring for individuals in a group home setting, demonstrating her compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to her community. Her passion for helping others shone brightly throughout her life. She taught high school English in Dallas and Quinlan, TX, leaving an indelible mark on her students. Carolyn was also known for her strong Christian values and devoted her life to serving Christ and her community, ensuring her impact extended far beyond her family.

Carolyn loved to travel, with a particular fondness for the beaches and oceans that brought her peace and happiness. She had a deep love for her puppies, who were her loyal companions and brought her immense joy. Despite her own health challenges, including a successful lung transplant in 2021, Carolyn remained an inspiring figure of strength and resilience.

A celebration of Carolyn's life will take place on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the New Hope Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., and livestreaming will be available for those unable to attend in person. She will be laid to rest at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville, TX. Her presence on this earth will be missed deeply, but her memory will forever inspire those who carry her spirit in their hearts.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, James and Willie Jo Gray.
