Cathleen Handfelt

Katie Handfelt, born on February 5, 1964, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 61. She is survived by Michael Mitchell; daughters Tasha McCord and son-in-law Cary Elder; Meagan Finklea and son-in-law Maxwell Finklea; son Matthew Handfelt; Justin Mitchell; and a host of grandchildren, including Caden Stevens, Titan Stevens, Landen Kazmierczak, Colbi Kate Finklea, Capri Finklea, T.J. Mitchell, Caleb Mitchell, and Kobie Mitchell. She also leaves behind great-granddaughter Vayda Stevens; sisters Lisa Sicurella and Suzanne Langston; brother-in-law Billy Langston; brother Wayne Caldwell; and sister-in-law Holly Caldwell.

Katie was full of life. She brought joy wherever she went and truly enjoyed life's simple pleasures. Throughout her life, she loved playing softball, going out dancing, and spending time outdoors-fishing, crabbing, camping, and enjoying family cookouts. Katie had an immense love for all of her animals. She looked forward to trips to Galveston, and some of her best memories were made at the beach-soaking up the sun, relaxing by the water, and laughing with her loved ones.

She loved good food and simple comforts-Red Lobster dinners, Sonic mozzarella sticks, a glass (or two) of wine, and her favorite Starbucks drink, a Mocha Frappuccino. Katie had a knack for finding a great deal and always appreciated things that made life fun and meaningful. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and enjoyed spending time with them every chance she got.

Visitation will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel on October 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Katie's warmth, kindness, and zest for life will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Katie was preceded in death by her mother, Glenda Caldwell; father, David Todd; and brother, David Todd.
