Cecil R. Cathey

Cecil Cathey, 77 of Mesquite, Texas died January 21 , 2021 in Mesquite, Texas.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 13, 1943 to C.C. and Opal Cathey.  He attended Richmond Schools graduating from the 8th grade and graduated from Vici High School.  He later went on to attend Enid Business College, Dallas County Community College District and Eastfield Police Academy.

 

He married the love of his life, Vickie Lynn Frank on August 4, 1962 and they had three sons, Jim, Jess and John.

 

Cecil was a man of varied talents working as a farmer, truck driver, musician, United States Post Office, finance manager, banker and 21 years in law enforcement with Balch Springs Police Department, Crandall Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and Kaufman County Constable Keith Stephens.  He was active in law enforcement until age 77.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, many friends and relatives and his three best friends Miss Kitty, Lucky and Sophie.

 

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, January 26, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at New Hope Funeral Home located at 500 US-80, Sunnyvale, Texas 75182.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.  Interment will follow at New Hope.

 

Pallbearers are John Vakidis, Tatiana Vakidis, Chace Cathey, Treston Cathey, Rope Cathey, Chelsae Cathey and Colten Cathey.

 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vickie Lynn Cathey, sons Jim and wife Sheryl Cathey of Forney, Texas, Jess Cathey of Seagoville, Texas and John Cathey of Rockwall, Texas,  grandchildren John and wife Dottie Vakidis, Tatiana Vakidis, Chace and wife Jennifer Cathey, Treston and wife Ashley Cathey, Rope Cathey, Chelsae Cathey and Colten Cathey and great-grandchildren Karanessa Morrison, Tatum Lynn, Treston William Jarrett II, Teague Lendon and Torin Wade “Tuff” Cathey and Wyatt Cecil Vakidis and beloved friend Mr. Dillon.

 

During his musical career, Cecil worked with the following Country music stars:  Tommy Duncan, The Browns, George Hamilton IV, George Morgan, Little Jimmy Dickens, The Louvin Brothers, Bob Luman, Porter Waggoner and Norma Jean, Buck Trent, Charlie Walker, Justin Tubb, Ferlin Husky, Jimmy Capps, Lefty Frizzell, Jim Hannon and the Oklahoma Country Boys, Hershul Clothier and The Oklahoma Travelers, Dewey Brown Bank and Ferlin Husky.
