Douglas Wayne Watson

March 4, 1948 - June 19, 2026

Douglas Wayne Watson, born on March 4, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on June 19, 2026, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Doug was a remarkably kind and caring man who truly never met a stranger; he had a rare gift for striking up a conversation with anyone he met. His sense of humor was a defining part of who he was, memorable for his spirited stories, joke telling, and a famously mischievous grin. His compassionate heart extended to all living things, nowhere more evident than when he rescued an abandoned dog from a dumpster, brought her home, and named her Faith. Though a man of modest means, Doug was incredibly resourceful and constantly sacrificed to ensure his family always had what they needed.

A dedicated master plumber, Doug served with distinction for both the Mesquite and Dallas Independent School Districts. Later in life, he brought his patient and caring nature to the Rockwall Independent School District, where he worked as a school bus monitor for special needs children, who affectionately called him "Watson."

Doug was the bedrock of his family and a driving force behind his son's achievements. His unwavering support was key to his son's success as a Professional Engineer. In recent years, Doug took immense pride in assisting with his son's rocket business, routinely rolling up his sleeves to help with all aspects of the operation.

Doug had a profound passion for the outdoors, finding his greatest joy in bass fishing, camping, and tending to his garden. He created lasting memories with his son, Robert, attending numerous fireworks and rocket events where their shared enthusiasm deepened an unbreakable bond. As a grandfather, Doug delighted in nurturing the interests of his grandchildren, Landin and Emma, forging a loving relationship that will be forever cherished by his family. He was also deeply instrumental in supporting his son and grandson's lifelong passion for golf, sharing in their enthusiasm and celebrating their time on the course.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Paula Vanderslice Watson, to whom he was married for 54 years on July 1st; his son, Robert Douglas Watson and daughter-in-law Misty; and his cherished grandchildren, Landin and Emma Watson. He is also survived by his brother, Don Watson; niece, Jo Dawn Watson-Woel; nephews, Robbie Watson and Slade Watson; great-niece, Taylor Jo Woel; brother-in-law, R.D. Vanderslice and sister-in-law, Lynn; and nephew, Brandon Vanderslice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ruth Louise Watson; his brother, Billy Watson; and his nephew, Brady Watson.

The Watson family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Brad Grimsley and Dr. David Lensch for the close, attentive care and kindness they provided to Doug over the years.
