Eddie DeVoll, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 79 years old.
Eddie was born on September 29, 1944, in San Angelo, Texas, to parents Steve and Helen Gramling DeVoll. While attending high school at Tulia High School, where he graduated in 1963, Eddie played football and worked in a lumberyard, demonstrating a dedication and work ethic that would define his life. His passion for motorcycles began in the eighth grade, a hobby that brought him joy throughout his life.
After high school, Eddie embarked on a new journey, working at a Ford dealership where he sold car parts. He soon decided to pack up his car and move to Dallas to attend a computer school. While living at the YMCA and working at the Ford dealership during the day, Eddie attended night classes. Eddie's career took a significant turn when a friend informed him of a job opportunity at an over-the-counter drug warehouse, Semtner Drug Co. He seized this chance and poured his energy into the role, working long hours and eventually becoming an owner of the company. Eddie served in the National Guard from 1966-1970.
Eddie's interests extended beyond work. He had a love for old cars and motorcycles. Gardening was another of his passions, and each spring, he planted 96 tomato plants. Eddie had a remarkable ability to repair almost anything, a testament to his resourcefulness and skill. Eddie loved watching the Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks. He also liked Wheel of Fortune, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and car shows.
Above all, Eddie was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth DeVoll; two sons, Steven DeVoll and his wife, Cynthia, of Wylie, Texas, and James DeVoll of Minnesota. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Matthew DeVoll (and partner Owen Myers) of Plano, Texas, Michael DeVoll of Austin, Texas, and Madison DeVoll of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by brothers Roland DeVoll of Little Rock, California, Bill DeVoll of Pampa, Texas, Nina Kemph of Pampa, Texas, and Martha Sluder of Pampa Texas. Additionally, cousins Norris DeVoll of San Antonio, Texas, and Gene DeVoll of Grandbury, Texas, who were raised with Eddie like brothers.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Helen DeVoll; brother, Wayne DeVoll; and sister, Karen DeVoll.
