Edward M. Shatter

Former Michigan resident Edward M Shatter, 94, died December 31, 2020, in Mesquite, Texas.

Edward was born February 3, 1926, in Detroit, MI., to William and Rose Shatter. He graduated from Rosary School of Commerce in Detroit, and worked for many years as a bread salesman at Ward Baking Company. After retiring from Ward’s, he owned a laundromat in Garden City where he enjoyed visiting and helping his customers.

He and his wife, Elinore, raised their six children in Detroit and later moved to Dearborn, MI.  They enjoyed traveling and visited Italy many times as well as France, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Greece. After Elinore’s passing, Ed lived in Dearborn Heights. He was a parishioner at Church of the Divine Child in Dearborn and was a dear friend to many. He continued traveling with his children and visited Japan, England, Georgia, New York, Florida, Oregon and Texas. Ed spent the last two years in Oregon and Texas.

Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Elinore, son, Brian and brothers Anthony and George. He is survived by his children Stephen (Kurt) Chater, Timothy (Roxanne) Shatter, Jennifer (Jerry) Stembridge, Donna Shatter and Philip (Terri) Shatter, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Shatter and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service is planned for July in Dearborn, MI with burial at St. Hedwig cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit or EWTN Global Catholic Network.
