Eleanor Sue Carroll passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 85. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in remembering the many ways she filled our lives with kindness, strength, and unconditional love.
Sue was born on August 25, 1940, in Ellis County to Drenon Ray (D.R.) and Lillie Speer growing up in Italy, Texas on the family farm. She built a life centered around love and dedication to those closest to her. She married Paul Sheppard Carroll Jr. on August 29, 1963, beginning a partnership rooted in loyalty, laughter, and shared dreams. Together they built a home filled with warmth and raised their family with patience, wisdom, and devotion.
She was a woman who believed deeply in the importance of faith and family. She found her greatest joy in being a mother, grandmother, and friend. Whether it was offering advice, sharing stories, cooking favorite meals (tea cakes), or simply listening when someone needed comfort, she had a gift for making people feel cared for and understood.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Carroll and husband Mark Kelly; her son, Paul Carroll III; grandson, Eric Clark and wife Erin; great-grandson, Ryder; grandson, Jake Carroll and wife Tiffany; great-grandsons, Ryder and Wyatt; grandson, Zane Kelley; brother, Ray Speer; sisters, Jayne Bones, and Margaret Ann Olesko; brother-in-law, Bill McKinney; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, D.R. and Lillie Speer; husband, Paul Sheppard Carroll, sister, Agnes Atwell; brother, Butch Speer; and sister-in-law, Roxie Tidwell.
We take comfort in knowing that Sue is now at peace in the presence of the Lord, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and watching over the family she loved so deeply.
