Elizabeth Novlee Dewberry Seabourn
On the afternoon of July 2, 2025, Elizabeth Novlee Dewberry Seabourn passed away peacefully in Mesquite, Texas after a lengthy battle with the results of a debilitating stroke in 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Kermet Seabourn, her parents Leroy and Arrie Dewberry and by her brother Sonny Dewberry.
She is survived by her son Keith Seabourn and wife Kay, her daughter Karen Seabourn Lyles and husband David, her 5 grandchildren Jennifer Seabourn, Daniel Seabourn (Michelle), Jonathan Seabourn (Meredith), Meredith Lyles, and Brittany Lyles Peltier (Matthew), her 7 great grandchildren Abigail Seabourn, Lucy Seabourn, Luke Seabourn, Natalie Seabourn, Nathan Seabourn, Deacon Peltier and Arrie Peltier, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends from her church.
Novlee Seabourn was born in Dallas, Texas on March 21, 1930. She was the oldest child of Leroy and Arrie Dewberry. Novlee grew up in New Hope (now part of Sunnyvale) and Mesquite. She began school in the one-room Murphry school and became a cheer leader at Mesquite High School.
After graduating high school as class valedictorian in 1947, her first job was with Dallas Power and Light Company as a secretary. Kermet and Novlee married in November 1948. Later she joined Mesquite Independent School District in 1959, eventually serving as executive secretary to 3 superintendents. She retired in 1996.
Novlee and her beloved Kermet enjoyed travel in a variety of RV trailers. Family vacation tours included the western U.S. to California, through the Smoky Mountains, and frequent trips to Colorado. They joined Kermet's brothers for an RV trip through New England to Maine. Even long weekends to nearby locations in Texas were part of her life.
Novlee and Kermet were long -time members of Liberty Baptist Church and later Friendship Baptist Church. Serving others was a hallmark of her life whether using her administrative skills, providing meals, or helping other.
Novlee prayed. She prayed for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was part of a faithful prayer group that met for many years praying for the needs of her church and friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to either the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the mission/charity of your choice.
