Eric Babu

Eric Obiri Babu was born in January 1981 in Kisii County - Kenya to Joseph Ragira and the late Mama Mary Birundi Rogito. From his earliest days, he carried a quiet resilience, a warm spirit, and a deep sense of responsibility, qualities that shaped the remarkable man he became. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness and steady character touched many lives.

Eric moved from Kenya to the United States, embracing new opportunities while remaining deeply connected to his roots. Driven by a passion for caring for others, Eric pursued nursing at Fortis Institute and went on to serve as a nurse in several institutions throughout his career. His commitment to service was matched by his deep belief in the power of education. He encouraged and supported many in their academic journeys, always advocating for learning and self‑improvement. At the time of his passing, Eric was continuing to advance his own education and was enrolled in a pharmacy program at Texas Tech University.

In 2012, Eric married the love of his life, Lydia Giteya, becoming a son‑in‑law to Samson and Elizabeth Giteya and a brother‑in‑law to Ruth, Lilian, Lewis, Rabin, Wycliffe, and Eric. Their marriage was a partnership built on deep friendship, mutual respect, and unwavering devotion. Together, they were blessed with three beautiful children Ryan, Ranish, and Hailee who became the center of their world. Eric embraced fatherhood with pride and tenderness. He guided his children with patience, protected them with strength, and loved them with a fullness that will forever remain in their hearts.

In June 2025, Eric received the difficult diagnosis of gallbladder cancer. It was a journey no one is ever prepared for, yet he faced it with the same courage, faith, and quiet strength that had always defined him. Even in moments of pain, he remained gentle. Even in uncertainty, he remained hopeful. And even in his final days, he continued to show love to those around him. On December 7th, 2025, Eric took his final breath, surrounded by the people who loved him most. He left this world the same way he lived in it; with dignity, grace, and peace.

Though his time with us feels far too short, the impact of his life is immeasurable. His laughter, his wisdom, his humility, and his unwavering love will continue to echo in our hearts. His legacy lives on in his wife, his children, his family, and in every life he quietly touched and uplifted.
