Ernest "Ernie" Garza Gonzales was born on May 31, 1941, to Patricio & Jesusa "Susie" Gonzales in Eden, Texas. He passed at home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday June 9, 2026 in Forney, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Gonzales; his parents; siblings, Guadalupe, Odilia, Arthuro and Jose' (Joe) Gonzales; son-in-law, Ronald Boyd; grandchildren, Kandice & Randy Boyd; and great-grandson, Chance Trebing.
He is survived by daughter, Shelly Gonzales-Maldonado & husband Gasper; step-children Glenn Armey (Annette), Vickie Boyd, Barbara West (Scott), Kevin Danielson (DeAnn) and Kenneth Danielson; along with 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, with numerous nieces and nephews.
Originally from San Antonio, TX, Ernie moved to Mesquite in the early 80's where he met and married Ann (Chelf) Danielson on February 6, 1983. He worked as a truck driver and had his own trucking company, E.G.A.T. Transport. He later worked at Mesquite ISD as a bus driver, and then go on to own and operate The Boat Connection Rentals in Mesquite during the 80's. He even rented to the famous bands Motley Crew and White Snake.
Ernie will be remembered as a kind, generous, and hardworking man who enjoyed helping others. Throughout his life he faced challenges with determination. This was evident in his final years as he courageously battled illness. And though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those lives he enriched.
His stepdaughter Vickie was his caretaker for the past two years during his battle. The family will be forever grateful for the countless sacrifices she made and the love she shared.
