Gary Michael Lindsey was called home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on October 19, 1957 to the late Bob Ray Lindsey and Mary Spaulding Lindsey on a Naval base in Sasebo, Japan, Gary was the third of four children. His family moved around quite often to different naval bases throughout the United States and Japan. Gary graduated from Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1975. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement and Police Science in 1979. He went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1991.
Gary spent almost 50 years serving the citizens of Dallas County as a member of law enforcement. He started his career at the Dallas County Sheriff's Department as a detention officer in the Dallas County jail in 1978. He rose through the ranks to attain the title of Cheif Deputy. He retired from the sheriff's office in 2014 to develop and lead the Police Department at Dallas Baptist University. After serving in several other departments, his final law enforcement service was as a lieutenant in the police department at DART.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Gary spent many years officiating high school softball with the Dallas Metroplex Softball Umpires Association, where he also served on the board of directors.
Gary had a servant's heart and volunteered with many different organizations. He was a deacon at Lake Ridge Bible Church, where he was a member for 14 years. During his time at Lake Ridge, he volunteered with Hearts and Hammers and Awana. At his current church home, Lakepointe Church of Rockwall, he volunteered with Texans on Mission. He spent many years coaching his daughters' various sports teams.
Gary loved to spend time sailing with his wife, Michele, and spent 2 years restoring his own sailboat, Second Wind. He was a builder and fixer, and there was no project he was incapable of completing. He belonged to Rush Creek Yacht Club in Heath, Texas, where he and Michele took sailing lessons at the beginning of their sailing journey. They sailed in the British Virgin Islands, Newport, Rhode Island, and Galveston, Texas.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Michele Lindsey; daughters Jessica Lindsey, Haley Lindsey, Samantha Lindsey and Rebecca Lindsey; and grandchildren Ella Ruppe and Oaksen Wade. He is also survived by his brothers, Terry Lindsey and Barry Lindsey, and his sister, Mary Streitenberger, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
A viewing will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas, on Monday, November 9th, from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Lake Ridge Bible Church in Mesquite, Texas, on Tuesday, November 10th, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to Texans on Mission at https://www.texansonmission.org/donate
