An epic love story continues in Heaven. Bobby and Maurine Robinson’s love story began in 1949 in the 9th grade at Mesquite High School — two young souls whose paths were destined to intertwine. It was at church that Bob first gathered the courage to ask Maurine out on their first date, and from that moment forward, their hearts were bound. They continued to date through their junior and senior years of high school, and faithfully kept their connection alive even as they each attended separate colleges.

Then came the day that would change everything. While out for a drive together, Bob pulled over alongside her uncle’s cotton patch — unable to wait a moment longer — and asked Maurine to be his forever. She said yes.

On June 25, 1954, Bobby and Maurine were married, beginning a partnership and love story that would span over seven decades. Together they created a beautiful family, raising three children — Robert Haynes, Hyla Susan, and Lyndi Maurine — and building a life rich with laughter, loyalty, and an abiding faith that anchored them through every season.

Maurine passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loved ones. Bobby followed her home on August 7, 2026, just one day later, at the age of 92. Even in passing, they could not bear to be apart for long.

Hyla Maurine Hanby Robinson

March 31, 1934 – August 6, 2026

Hyla Maurine Hanby Robinson passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at the age of 92, at home and surrounded by the loved ones she cherished most. She was born on March 31, 1934, to the late Dona Maurine Chapman and Eugene Haynes Hanby — a daughter who would grow into a woman of remarkable grace, warmth, and devotion.

Maurine was born into a family with deep Texas roots. Her grandfather, John L. Hanby, made the remarkable journey from Bristol, Tennessee to Mesquite by covered wagon in the late 1800s — a pioneering spirit that seemed to live on in Maurine’s own quiet strength and steadfast devotion to her community. Maurine graduated from Mesquite High School in 1951 and went on to attend North Texas State University and Southern Methodist University, where she was a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, forging friendships and bonds that would endure a lifetime.

A woman who gave generously of her time and talents, Maurine co-owned Forget-Me-Not alongside her dear friend Carole Higgins Finley. She was an active member of the Parent-Teachers Association, the Triskelions Club, the Delta Delta Delta Mother’s Club, and the Mesquite High School 50+ Year Reunion Committee. Her love for local heritage shone through her participation in the Mesquite Historical Society.

Faith was the cornerstone of Maurine’s life. She held the distinction of being the oldest lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite — a testament to a faith that never wavered. She served faithfully as both a Deacon and Trustee of the congregation. In quieter moments, she found joy in baking, playing bridge, and traveling the world with dear friends.

“Gigi,” as she was lovingly known by her grandchildren, was the most gentle, kind, and loving grandmother any child could hope for. She and Bobby — “Bop” — were fixtures at every soccer game, football game, gymnastics meet, and theatrical performance, cheering with unmistakable pride. And in the kitchen, Gigi was in her element — teaching, nurturing, and creating sweet memories one recipe at a time.

Maurine lived as she loved — fully, faithfully, and with her whole heart.

Robert “Bobby” Wayne Robinson

June 15, 1934 – August 7, 2026

Robert “Bobby” Wayne Robinson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the Mesquite community, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years old. Bobby was born on June 15, 1934, to the late Etta Mildred Kent and Robert Winston Robinson, Jr. He grew up in Dallas, attending Pleasant Mound School before going on to Mesquite High School, graduating with the class of 1951, and later attending Arlington State College.

A natural athlete and leader, Bobby made his mark on the Mesquite High School athletic program. He played wide receiver and tight end on the football team and earned the honor of team Captain his senior year. His competitive spirit extended across seasons — he also played basketball and baseball — embodying the dedication and teamwork that would define his character throughout his life.

Bob assumed ownership and the presidency of E.H. Hanby Insurance Agency when his late father-in-law retired in the early 1970s, building upon that legacy with the same integrity and care he brought to every endeavor. He also served as a Director of the First Bank of Balch Springs, cementing his commitment to the financial and civic health of his community.

Bobby’s dedication to Mesquite was recognized in a deeply meaningful way when, on November 11, 2020, Mayor Bruce Archer officially proclaimed Bobby Robinson Day — a tribute to a lifetime of service. He served as a member of the North Texas Municipal Water District Board of Directors and as a City Councilmember, shaping policies and infrastructure that benefited generations of Mesquite residents. He was a proud president of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, held every office of the Mesquite Lions Club, and was a steadfast supporter of Skeeter Football and the MHS 50+ High School Reunion Committee.

Faith was the foundation of Bob’s life. A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite, he served faithfully as both an Elder and a Trustee, living out his values of service, stewardship, and grace in all he did.

Bobby Robinson was a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering love — for his family, his faith, his community, and his beloved Mesquite. He leaves behind a legacy written not only in proclamations and titles, but in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
