Grover Jackson Huddleston A celebration of life for Jack Huddleston, age 76, of Mesquite, Texas will be conducted at 11 am, Tuesday August 26 at Eastridge Park Christian Church in Mesquite, Texas, with Brother Dan Carroll officiating.Burial will be at The Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 3 pm.Jack died August 23, 2003 of a massive heart attack. Visitation will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, August 25. Jack was born in Union County, Arkansas on February 8, 1927 to Grover Henry and Ethel Pratt Huddleston.He proudly served in The US Navy during WWII.He married Rita Slaughter on August 15, 1953 in Camden, Arkansas.He was a "three -time" retired construction superintendent. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita; three daughters and sons-in-law: Sherry and Terry Hobbs of Garland, Dianne and Randy Leake of Mesquite, and Lisa and Kevin Smith of Mesquite.He was Poppaw to nine grandchildren: Travis Hobbs and wife Stephanie Aaron Jordan and fianc Kelli Rosen Hillary Syverson and husband Russell Crissy Capps and fianc Steve Bridgefarmer Scotty Capps Shelly Leake and Brian Price Blair Leake Carissa Meyer and husband Matt Lacie Smith And one great grandchild, Laura Hobbs. He was the oldest surviving sibling of twelve children.Survivors include: Wayne and Mary Huddleston of Wills Point, Texas, John and Janis Huddleston of Lewisville, Arkansas, Langston and Peggy Huddleston of Genoa, Arkansas, Virginia and Bill Gilliand of Homer, Louisiana, and Marge Huddleston of Mesquite, Texas. He was also loved as son-in-law to Stella Slaughter of Camden, Arkansas, brother-in-law to Peggy and Sonny Jones of Camden, Arkansas, Bill and Claudette Slaughter of Clear Lake, Texas, Tommy and Shirley Slaughter of Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a wonderful uncle, great-uncle and cousin to his large and loving extended family. Pallbearers include his three sons-in-law, grandsons, Steve Bridgefarmer, Brian Price, and Russell Syverson. Jack's favorite things in this world were his family, telling stories, and making jams and jellies that he loved to share with those he loved and cared for. The family suggests memorials be made to the MEA Scholarship Fund in care of Mesquite ISD. He arrived to his fiftieth anniversary party in a limo to celebrate a life of love and happiness with friends and family gathered at Lakeside Activity Center.After declaring his eternal love to his beloved wife Rita and presenting her with an anniversary ring which he wittily declared did not cost $125 this time around like it did fifty years ago, he left this world to be with his Maker in a chariot.
