Jason Lee Herndon was born on March 28, 1967, in Longview, Texas, to Leroy and Betty Herndon, and went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 6, 2026.

A 1985 graduate of Kirbyville High School, Jason worked for more than thirty-five years at Hartman Fire Protection in Dallas, Texas, where he was a deeply valued employee. Known for his cheerful spirit and willingness to help anyone, Jason was also highly knowledgeable and respected throughout the fire protection industry for his skill in troubleshooting and guiding others through difficult problems. His expertise will be greatly missed, and he will be remembered as irreplaceable in his field. Outside of work, Jason loved hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with friends and family, and, most of all, enjoying life.

Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Betty Herndon; his grandparents, John and Alice Powell; his brothers, Jim Herndon and Joe Burks.

Jason is survived by his brothers, Roy Herndon and wife Kimberly, and John Sadler and wife Toni; nephews Derek Herndon, Jeremy Herndon, and Zane Froelich; nieces Shannon Lantz, Tara Herndon, Christin Herndon, and Amber Herndon; and his cherished great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind his best friend, Danny Johnston, as well as many family members, friends, co-workers, and colleagues in the fire protection industry.

The world will feel quieter without Jason's presence and his unmistakable opinions on how to fix it.

The family will host a Celebration of Life and visitation for Jason at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. US Hwy. 80, Sunnyvale, Texas 75182, on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Danville Cemetery, County Road 2452, Kilgore, Texas 75662, at 2:00 PM.

Jason's family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
