She was born on September 25, 1947, to George and Millie Singleton, and she grew up in Mesquite, Texas. Jeanie graduated from Mesquite High School in 1965 and embarked on a life marked by resilience and unwavering love.
In her earlier years, Jeanie faced the challenges of single motherhood after the end of her first marriage. She devoted herself to her children, working three jobs to ensure their well-being. It was during this time that she met William (Bill) Schmeichel, who would become the love of her life. The couple married in Las Vegas on October 20, 1980, and together, they built a joyful and fulfilling life for their family.
Jeanie's career was a testament to her dedication and compassion. She served as a supervisor for six schools with the YWCA and later joined the YMCA, where she continued to impact the lives of children and families in her community. A devoted caregiver to her father, Jeanie's nurturing spirit extended to all who knew her, as her home was often filled with the laughter and energy of friends and family.
In her leisure time, Jeanie relished the joy of garage sales, enjoyed cruising, and cherished short getaways with Bill. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
Jeanie is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, William (Bill) Schmeichel; her daughter, Tracey Lowden, and Tracey's husband, Billy; her son, Rusty Ratliff, and Rusty's wife, Gloria; and her cherished grandchildren, Shannon, Timothy, and Grayson Lowden, Royce Ratliff, and Gabriel Babb. She is also survived by her nephew, Matthew Scholl, and his wife, Devah, and their children, Kayla White, Parker (Blaze) Scholl, Olivia Carter, and Reanna Scholl, along with several cousins; including Carol Jean Williamson and Sharon (Shar) Eileen Smith, Elaine Baptiste, June Taylor, and Aletta Baxter, her brother-in-law Burl McCormick, a number of nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Millie Singleton; her mother and father-in-law, Rudy and Eris Schmeichel; her sister-in-law, Diane McCormick; and her daughter, Jessilyn Franklin.
