Jerry Lee Watters Sr, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the age of 81. He was born on November 30, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas to parents Aljoe & Marybelle Watters.
Jerry graduated from Dodge City High School in Dodge City, Kansas in 1959. He briefly attended Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas before entering the U.S. Naval Academy in San Diego, CA where he served from 1961-65. During this time he traveled the world as a member of the USS Newport Navy Band. After his service, Jerry attended and graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas with a bachelors degree in Music Education.
Jerry was able to share his love for music serving as band director in several schools in Kansas and Texas. And for a short time, he also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Jerry was not only passionate about his music, but also his faith serving as a Minister of Music in several churches throughout Texas along with his wife Linda who would accompany him. He was a Charter Member of The Singing Men of Texas in 1974 and was a faithful participant up to the time of his passing as a singer and instrumentalist for 48 years. He was a Sunday School teacher at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church and also led weekly Bible study every Tuesday at the Evergreen Retirement Complex.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Aljoe and Marybelle Watters; and brothers Darrell, and Don.
He is survived by his wife of 41yrs, Linda Watters; his children, Jerry Lee Watters Jr, Sharon Watters Beedle, Michael Wayne Watters, Deanna Condos, and Carol Woodman along with their spouses; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of many, many friends and acquaintances who will miss him dearly.
