Joe Wilson Richardson left this earthly life on May 23, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on May 2, 1937 to parents Bernal and Gertrude Richardson in Cranfills Gap, TX. For over 35 years, Joe worked as a switch station repairman for GTE.
Joe was a man of many passions. He loved woodworking, not for merely the activity, but because it enabled him to make things for others that greatly enriched their lives. His prayer crosses were given to family, friends, friends of family, friends of friends, and hundreds of people in nursing homes, hospitals, funeral homes, and churches. It was one more way he could point people to Christ! And his Joker games provided hundreds and thousands of hours of fun to the many people who owned them because of him. He also loved studying WW2 as a whole and especially the planes and weaponry from that era. One of his fondest memories was being able to attend the 50th reunion of D-Day with a friend who was there.
For many years, Joe cultivated a full garden of roses so he could bring fresh flowers to his wife on a daily basis. And together, he and his wife enjoyed square dancing and camping with friends and family. He also loved playing games and doing puzzles, especially Sudoku, which is probably one of the things that kept him so clear-headed through the years.
Joe's character could be summed up as a man who was faithful; to his family, his friends, and most importantly, to God. He always showed up when you needed him and was always willing to help.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Teresa May of Royse City, TX; son, Robert Richardson and wife Brenda of New Jersey; son, Tommy Richardson and wife Sandra of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Bobbie Sudbury and husband Robert of Abilene, TX; daughter, Debbie Zukonik and husband Patrick of Lindale, TX; daughter, Candie Stevens of Abilene, TX; granddaughters, Patricia Neyer, Christina Lambright, Brandi Wilson, Holly Hevrov, Dorothy Blauvelt, Tamika Bennett and Linda Miller; grandsons, Joseph May, William Richardson, Michael Richardson, Brian Wilson , Michael Bennett Nathaniel Cox, Rodney Lawson, Benjamin Stevens, Chance Thompson and Christopher Rains; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jannett Richardson; his parents, Bernard and Gertrude Richardson; son, David Rains; granddaughter, Tosha Castillo; and grandson, Dennis Anthony.
