John W. Avery fought the good fight and finished his race on May 23, 2022, at the age of 68 in Mesquite, TX surrounded by his family.

John was born on March 17, 1954 in Dallas, TX, to John C. and Chiarina Avery. He grew up in Pleasant Grove and was known to some as "Lud". After graduating from W.W. Samuell High School in 1972, he worked for Sears & Roebuck for several years driving a delivery truck. In 1982, he fulfilled a dream and opened his own paint & body business. Eventually, Avery's Paint & Body was established which became a successful business providing quality workmanship. John worked hard and made a name for himself within the industry.

John and Donna married on November 25, 1972 in Dallas, Texas and shared five daughters - Melissa, Jody, Shanda, Angela and Susan. John loved his family very much and he was a proud dad.

John was best known for his passion for cars. He enjoyed racing cars in addition to restoring them. He could be found cruising on Buckner Blvd. back in the day before eventually racing at many drag strips. John had a passion for life. He loved dancing, socializing, telling jokes and shooting pool. John was a hard worker but that never kept him from taking trips to Vegas or Choctaw to try his luck on the slots. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and also enjoyed watching a good boxing match. He spent occasional Sundays with family at the lake riding jet skis and more recently enjoyed fishing. He worked 7 days a week most of his life but always took time out of his day to visit with the army of friends that always stopped by. He had a giving, generous heart and was always willing to extend a helping hand to so many individuals from all walks of life. He believed in second chances and was always there for people in their time of need. It is abundantly apparent by the tributes on social media that he was very well respected and admired and described as a TRUE LEGEND.

John is survived by his wife, Donna, daughters - Melissa Campbell & husband, Chris, Jody Hillenbrand & husband, Scott, Shanda Jaure & husband, Tony, Angela Wall & husband, Josh and Susan Salmon. Ten grandchildren who called him "Sweet Papa"- Megan Mann, Colby Wilbanks, Taylor Fuentes, Jordan Jaure, Johnathan Salmon, Alex Fuentes, Anthony Jaure, Lauren Salmon, William Hillenbrand, & Rylie Wall, two great-granddaughters - Brinlyn Wilbanks & Mavery Mann, his sisters - Linda Kenny & husband, Dan, Chiarina Suratt, his brother - Marvin Triplett & wife, Rosario. He also leaves behind many more extended family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents - John & Chiarina Avery, brother - Jack Avery, sister in law - Elaine Triplett, brother in law -Darrell Suratt and nephew - Michael Bradley Avery.

John will be forever remembered in our hearts and will be truly missed by all those who loved him.
